As another person stated, I'm not so sure about lettuce/vegetables in these, but growing herbs is fantastic. I grow basil, parsley, thyme, mint, and dill. Thinking of changing the mint and dill to rosemary and oregano or cilantro. They sell seed pods for them (they look like Keurig pods) for $8, but it seems like I could just recycle my existing ones and put sees/topsoil in them.

I have this model for several years, use during winter to have fresh herbs, works great and looks nice. there are several FB groups on Aerogarden subject, you can join and learn more before getting one.
