I owned a Series 2 in the past and returned it to Costco past the warranty period (when it launched, the warranty was only 3 months) due to how terrible the build quality was. The stop tabs for the triggers broke off, the A button would get stuck every now and then, stick drift, and the shoulder buttons lost sensitivity with use.

Microsoft was threatened with a class action lawsuit so they extended the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. I had already returned the controller before the extension, but I did not purchase the controller again as I could not justify the high price with such poor build quality. You can find many reports about these issues online.

I highly highly recommend purchasing a warranty with the controller or using a credit card with double warranty. These controllers sadly don't last which is why I was hoping they would produce a Series 3 rather than new colors. Many users on reddit will go through controller after controller using the warranty. I can't imagine paying $100+ every few months so save yourself the trouble and protect your purchase or just avoid it altogether.
