I have this grip, and it feels great on my larger hands. I didnt know they had a way to use it like a standard controller!

(edit)

Until I saw that it might not work with the older split controller, will only work wired, the sound suck, and there is no NFC or rumble. Too bad they cant just make a shell that works with the joycon's internals.

If you're looking for a truly wireless alternative, definitely look at NYXI gaming controllers. They are fantastic.

yeah I was confused by this at first too. It looks like the extra cost is because of the middle attachment portion that the split pad pro's can connect to and be used as a wired controller. Without that piece they just work for handheld mode without the ability to use them while docked/plugged in. If you just want the joy con replacement, then it makes sense to me to go with the 50 dollar version that does not have that middle attachment. If you don't have a controller for docked play, then the attachment makes sense. It is admittedly very confusing... lol

This is correct. The two side pieces are normally $60 msrp and the center piece is either $20 or $25. This just has all three in one package.

HORI Split Pad Pro is worth it for the Switch in portable mode. However, if I'm playing on the couch I'm only using the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. I'd suggest the lone controllers alone without the middle attachment.

Searching for "NYXI Joy Con" turns up nothing like this. I can only find a stand-alone single controller with no docking ability, like Nintendo's Pro controller. Is that what you meant or am I missing something?

These don't work wirelessly and they suffer the same flaw that causes joycon drift.

Look into Nyxi Wizard. $70 but plenty of 10% off coupons ($63 and free shipping).

It has hall sensors that never suffer from drift. Supports motion controls, turbo, programmable back triggers, wireless or attached, charges when attached. Does everything joycon do except 3 things... Doesn't do HD (variable) rumble, but does have rumble which you can set intensity. Doesn't have NFC for amiibo, but you could use joycon for that. And doesn't have infrared remote like joycon, but who uses that?

What is the infrared remote supposed to do?

I have this controller and I love it. My thumb would constantly hit the screen during Mario Kart, which causes the game to pause. This controller resolved that problem and is a great upgrade in feel to the joy-cons in my experience. I don't have the dock accessory, but as others have said, it's a wired attachment to the Switch. I have several $25 wireless controllers off Amazon that work fine in this situation. I can't imagine wanting to use this controller so much versus a no-name Bluetooth one or Nintendo Switch Pro Controller that I would be willing to wire the controller like I'm back in my dorm room playing Halo II circa 2006.
