Bought a similar model to this a couple months back. They are very easy to upgrade. RAM comes in 4+8GB sodimms (both modules can be replaced). There is a spot for a 2.5inch HDD/SSD in addition to the M.2 slot.

My In-laws in their 70s bought one of these at Costco for $599. While setting it up for them I noticed that the keyboard keys were dificult to see in normal to dim light. In-laws both complained of the same thing. I describe issue as thin lettering with low contrast to the silver background. But in the bios I enabled always-on backlight which helps a bit. But pretty sure they're taking it back to Costco for this issue.

Also I found that wi-fi (with good signal strength) randomly failed to re-connect after sleep or boot. Re-installing driver seemed to fix this.

An RX 550. Don't expect anything other than adequate results for office work or streaming video. It should do that just fine. It may be fine for light gaming, depending on the game.
Ok. I was hoping for something along the lines of a 1060. I was gonna impulse buy this for my kid to play games on, but that is a pass.

Per specifications only 1 HDMI but you can easily use HDMI splitter to connect 2 external monitors.

The integrated graphics on a 12th gen i5 will more than 'adequate' for office work and streaming. The integrated graphics on my *4th* gen i5 are more than adequate for office work and streaming. A liquid-cooled desktop build with a 13th gen i9 and a $1,500 discrete GPU will not do office work or streaming any better than the laptop in this deal. I have no idea where these delusional comments come from, but I suspect it's from gamers who think everything jumps in requirements every year like gaming does.

The specs on this PC are great for the price. You just have to be okay with a refurbed unit. It's not old enough to worry about battery issues IMO.

That does not work on HDMI. The result would just be a mirrored setup - two monitors showing the same image.

This is not what people think. If you buy a cheap splitter on Amazon you are going to wind up with mirrored displays. What's the point? *IF* the usb c port on this guy supported display port out, or alt mode then you could run multiple displays. But I don't think it does.

Too bad it has a crappy screen, that's what you will be looking at all day. Personally, I would buy a used Dell XPS, great screen. 250 nits, 45% NTSC
Quite honestly I repaired laptops for a couple of decades, I personally would avoid HP laptops. At one time they were good, however once they got a CEO who went on a cost cutting spree and abandoned quality to produce low priced items at the big box retailers and the systems deteriorated. This is after servicing perhaps hundreds over the years, it was a sad thing to watch the systems go down the drain.

Another reason for the returns would be the lack of an SD card slot. Inexcusable. You shouldn't have to attach an SD card reader.

Big problem with HP is the silver keys with thin white letters. Just not enough contrast to easily read

I have noticed similar problem with Dell laptops with silver keyboards. Text on them is white and very difficult to use in low light without backlight and during daytime with keyboard backlight.

Note that starting with the 12th gen, Intel switched from full cores, to performance cores (equivalent to the old full cores) + efficiency cores (cut-down versions meant for low-load operations while sipping power). Same strategy as adopted by ARM processors used in phones and tablets. Except on many ARM models it's either/or. If the efficiency cores are running the performance cores are turned off, and vice versa. In Intel, all cores can be on simultaneously (though doing so may cap clock speed lower than the max rated).

The i5-1235U is 2 performance + 8 efficiency cores [intel.com]. So the 10 core count is not as impressive as you might think, especially compared to previous gens. If you plan to use this for light tasks like web browsing and word processing, this won't matter. But if you were hoping to do any serious grunt work, you should probably look for a model with at least 4 performance cores.

Why do Laptop manufactures make keyboard silver? hard to see the letters and numbers. They should receie some public input on this.
