The largest sensor on the s23 ultra is 1/1.3" - about the size of that orange box in that diagram. The G95 is a micro four thirds camera - the sensor is the size of that red box in the diagram. It has at least 4 times the surface area. The camera has many physical controls, and can take many lenses that would dwarf the s23 ultra's capabilities just due to physics.
Of course, you can counter that the s23 has a very robust hardware and software team to make the software compensate HARD for that. And it does.
But I assure you, it's not the same. Smartphone cameras are a great way to get a capable camera in a lot of people's hands - one that is always there. I'm not going to argue that they're invalid - they're very valid. It's just, these are purpose built for taking pictures and making videos, and they can do a lot of great stuff.
Just having the physical controls for stuff like ISO settings can be friggin nice.
at $698 with a variable lens it's a nice start. Panasonic makes a fantastic 25mm f1.7 lens that fits these that goes for about $150. With those two things alone you can take pictures that would absolutely smoke an s23 ultra. If you felt like going through the effort lol.
Honestly IDK. Some people would say "why spend $700 on a camera when I can buy a phone for that much?" When I'm thinking "Why would I spend $1000 on a phone when I can get a better camera for $700?"

So I live within my means and settled for the Panasonic Lumix G95 for under $1k
Insert a formatted SD card, insert battery, flip the lever on top to on, turn left knob to single shot, turn right knob to iA, take a picture, and then flip lever to off. Now here's the tricky part that requires some dexterity of fingers: Press the little button AF/AE Lock and hold down, while pressing Disp and flip switch to on. Then let go of Disp button, but keep holding down on the AF/AE button. Now press on Menu/set button and hold down, while pressing the back button twice on the outer rotary dial of the Menu/set button. A screen with a bunch of 00's will display and then the second display will show you the shot count.
This info is a secret menu that Panasonic does not print in their manuals and only high level tech support is supposed to know, but no worries vato I got you!!
