Hahaha, that's like comparing a BMW to a Hugo. Plus 500 horsepower vs 200. Yep, same thing
The new lower version is 4680 type batteries. There's really no major difference in the two. If it were me I'd go for the long range. Well worth the extra 3k.
Otherwise, people may be relegated to hiring an electrician to make sure they are up to code. People have already started sites to match electricians with people looking for a L2 EV charger install at places like this one [localelectricianbids.com]. I wonder how many of these are being created using ChatGPT...hmm.. sorry, off topic.
Performance is better on the long range.

Phantom drain in the newer S/X and 3/Y is very minimal if sentry/cabin overheat is off. I parked at the airport recently for 6 days and my MYP only used 2% of range.
Don't buy an EV to save money vs gas.
Yes, EVs lose range/less efficient in cold weather. Depending on the model it can be 10-30%.
Regarding road trips, your statement of 1 hr for every 3-4 hours of driving is wrong. This largely depends on the route and where chargers are located. There are many. It certainly won't be as fast as an ICE, but I can do a 400 mile road trip (6-7 hours) in the summer with less than 40 minutes of charging in an MYP. That same trip takes less than 15 minutes of charging my MS LR. This is assuming you have charging at your destination.

Or is the internet just a bunch of phonies?

Every neighborhood I'm driving past is getting new Teslas in their driveways.
