They cancel the order if you don't have a landline for verification. Wtf

With only 8GB RAM, how many years do people think this computer will suffice for a casual user (like internet browsing, youtube or Netflix, MS Office once in a while, etc.)? Want something to last several years and trying to decide if I should buy this or get 16GB RAM. Thanks in advance.

They ask you to call them from the landline. It's Good Friday.

With Apple Silicon, no moving parts and what you outlined? Many many years. Probably at least 5.
These are also still very fast when the memory is full.

I think for your usage listed the 512GB storage is overkill though. But since it is basically "free" on this deal, no problem.

If I had to pick between 512GB storage and 16GB of memory though, I'd select more memory.

These with Apple Silicon are awesome computers. The battery life truly is impressive and they are very fast.

So did the 16gb deal from them end up being legit? Everyone got their laptops and is working and all?

Did they ask for a landline phone number to confirm the order? This looks like a really good deal just have never ordered from this company before.
They did not for me. I was about to scramble and try to find a friend with one but it went through without.

8gb is plenty for a casual user. Though as a programmer I was surprised to see issues arising from having the 8gb. Would recommend any developer get the 16gb.

I'm still holding out for the 15' MacBook Air. This is a great deal for most MacBook Air users needs though.

That models is gonna be 1600 probably though. This deal is the best ive seen. Most deals i saw were $1000 for the 256gb model. The ssd speeds will be 2x as fast for the 512gb since apple gimped the 256gb model

Hey, do you mind sharing your thoughts with me on a dilemma I'm having? or anyone else reading is welcome to also!

Basically: I bought an open box 14 inch m2 Pro with 16gb RAM for $1760 a couple weeks ago… but then the 16 inch M1 Max with 32gb RAM went on sale for $2500 so I got that too, thinking I'd return whichever I liked less.

Problem is I like them both. I'm leaning toward the 14" for portability and form factor (just feels better on my lap, on the sofa, in bed etc), plus I have an external monitor if I ever want more screen real estate…the 1tb ssd on the M1 Max is nice but I think the 512gb on the m2 pro is plenty for me and I can always get an external hdd.

… but I've been stressing over the RAM. I feel like the 32gb will last me much longer and "future proof" the laptop more.

What would you do in my shoes? The $2499 deal on the M1 Max was a flash sale that I doubt will occur again any time soon - the lowest I've seen it go normally is $2799 - so my choice will definitely be permanent and that's why I'm so indecisive about it and can't make up my mind.

Think I just need someone to convince me that 16gb will be enough for my needs. I do plan to do some video and photo editing but probably nothing super duper intensive unless I begin doing a lot of 4k rendering.

Great deal; the storage is the bottleneck on these M2 Macs. That said, I have the 256GB version of this and it still flies through general office productivity stuff. The extra storage speed or memory is only needed for heavy photo or video editing, but my guess is those people want the Pro anyway.

Don't but now , M2 MacBooks prices are expected to drop significantly very soon because Apple announced that it will stop producing M2 chips due to low Macbook sales :

Pretty strict return policy: "All non-defective returns authorized by PC Connection, whether opened or unopened, will be assessed a minimum 15% restocking fee, and must be authorized for return within 30 days from date of receipt." "All refused orders (for reasons other than shipping damage) will be subject to a minimum 15% restocking fee."

Well. Considering you can open up an intensive davinci resolve program and load a large video file 4k 60fps video and it plays on the timeline with no stutters at 8gb memory. I think 8gb for MacBooks will suffice for casual computing no problem

These are not only soldered on but it's a very unique type of memory that's closely linked to the cpu and ssd. It's not much like a normal pc
