14" has the perfect portable form factor and is so nice on my lap if I'm on the sofa or in bed but the 16" has more spacious keyboard, beautiful screen (truly feels more immersive than the 14" despite only being an extra two inches), better speakers and double the RAM and ssd (1tb versus 512gb).
If you guys were in my shoes which one would you pick and why? I just can't make up my mind. I'm worried I'll regret the 16" because of how bulky and cumbersome it is but the reality is I don't travel much. Mainly use it around the house. But even then it's a lot heavier in bed or on my lap… but the screen is so nice.
Then again, I have an external monitor I can plug the 14" into so screen size isn't necessarily a deal breaker. So it's a real toss up for me. I think I'm more focused on the extra RAM and ssd space for the price difference.

that's really my main concern and hesitation. i'm sitting on my sofa over my lunch break right now typing on the 14" and the screen does feel very small compared to the 16", but it's also light, form factor-friendly, and i can move it around with one hand.
the 16" on the other hand is truly a "lap" top and covers my entire lap, isn't as easy to move around... although i mostly use it at home, i still value the portability and that's where i'm stuck at a crossroads haha. i've grown to really love the 16" screen over the past couple weeks but realistically i'll have it plugged into an external monitor a lot of the time, so not sure how much that really matters.

- Better thermal control. I literally have 100+ tabs open and never once has the fan turned on in over a year.
- Most of the time I use the Macbook with an external monitor and the use the Macbook screen as a secondary monitor. For me, the larger screen size helps.
- It might not be an issue with the 14" Macbook as well, but the safety of the longer battery life on the 16" model allows me to leave the charger at home even if I'm out all day.

Ultimately I went with the 14" M1 Pro/16GB/1TB SSD. Very glad I did. Like the size, weight, display, and audio. Speed has been fantastic and I definitely needed the extra storage. After 3 months my "used" storage space is averaging around 490GB. Transcend does offer a 1TB JetDrive Lite 330 which goes in the SD card reader and sits flush with the chassis. It's a little slower than using the built-in SSD but may be a good solution if you go for the 512GB SSD and don't want extra storage hanging off your laptop.

>>Ah, one small point though: The 16" is by far the superior choice for me when I bought it 1.5 years ago... But this past winter I did get a 27" monitor at home w/ a Magic Keyboard and Trackpad for desktop usage. It is a great setup. So, half the year when I am at work (On a ship at sea) I really appreciate the 16" MBP as it's like having a movie theater in my stateroom w/ the beautiful picture quality, large display and amazing thunderous sound. However, the other half of the year she sits under my desk on a shelf plugged in to my setup. So, if I was to leave it at my desk and only occasionally take it on trips or use around the house here and there, I would actually probably save the money and get the 14" model. I used to stick with 13" MBP/MBAs as I'd need to carry it into port when I could to get internet access... But nowadays w/ mobile hotspots, it never leaves the ship either as I can get internet while onboard. So another argument to keeping the beast. Your experience very likely may differ haha.

I'm still debating it honestly. initially the 16" felt too big but I've kinda gotten used to it. just wish it was a little more portable and not quite as bulky and cumbersome.
when I do go back to the 14" it feels super small, but I think I'd probably get used to it again if I just didn't have the 16" for comparison. I have an external monitor as I mentioned and would definitely be docking it a good amount of the time, but a lot of times I'll probably be wanting to use it on the sofa, on my kitchen counter, or in bed... and especially in bed is when it just feels a little too large for comfort. on the sofa isn't too bad if I'm at a 90 degree angle but it's definitely a lot more cumbersome than the 14". on the kitchen counter works pretty well - but because of how much space it takes up it's not as convenient or flexible as the smaller one.
but man, the screen is gorgeous and the speakers sound so good.
