So if that's what your looking for for Apple TV, if you have a Roku tv or roku that's not 7 years old it should be capable.

I eventually got on the Nvidia Shield bandwagon and it does some thing super well, and if you want to spend hours tinkering, not much out there that is better in terms of being able to tinker but also having a solid foundation. But it would freeze up sometimes, or have weird playback issues in Plex. So I bought one AppleTV intended for just our bedroom, and it was a revelation. Lightning quick and immediately loaded apps we use most based on our Apple ID. Beyond just airplay, the kids can screen mirror their iPads when playing games and it just works on the first try.
So I am saying, don't get scared away by the people in here that talk about $15 Android devices. We were daily driving three of the top end of Android streaming devices with one shield per TV and if all you want is a great front end streaming box which enough power for the kids to maybe play some iOS games on or whatever, there is no comparison right now.
If you want to tinker and sideload apps or whatever else, which is fun too, then the Apple TV is maybe the worst platform for it. Like most things in life, it's rarely that one thing is good and another is bad, but they shine in different ways.
My house is wired for gigabit, I would be using the box for a bunch of regular streaming services and local/remote streaming in Plex. Nothing fancy, I just want something responsive, stable, and reliable.
The only thing I can think of would be using the Apple TV to stream Steam games from my PC using Moonlight or the SteamLink app. I'm pretty sure Roku doesn't support game controllers, so I suppose that would be an advantage to Apple. But I have a SteamLink box now and don't use it much as it is.
