Don't recommend these for Lawn robot wires in ground - The Self-Stripping Pigtail Connectors work great in the ground.

Anyone have experience using this to hardwire a radar detector or a dash camera in their car? Pros? Cons?

Will a hairdryer get hot enough to melt the solder?

i think a hairdryer can melt tubing but not solder. you can use a lighter if you don't have a heat gun.

Thanks! Used these to splice in a transmission harness with lots of small wires. Worked perfectly

no. A heat gun is inexpensive, btw.

There are also crimping type butt connectors rather than soldering.

https://www.amazon.com/TICONN-Con...086Z3H4X8/

I personally prefer crimping connection over solder connection since it's generally more resilient to vibrations and tension. You will need to spend $25 on a real crimper though, you shouldn't just use a needle nose plier.
