I bought this last month. I found it odd that two cost less than one. These things are sharp! Honestly, they are really nice. So nice it pains me to dig around in the dirt with them. I can't answer to the sheaths compared to the single pack. Mine both showed up in a fake leather sheath that is sewn and riveted. Label on the back of the sheath indicates it's a Snow Joe imported product.
Keepa has a few months of history and says it's always been this price
Original one is imported from Japan made by Nisaku while two pack as posted is made in China by snow joe. OP pulled the description from the original version product page. Please update - this is misleading.

Awesome gardening tool when I need a weed therapy break. Have used this one for several years now, removing tough Texas weeds intact without tearing up lawn. Serrated edge very handy for sawing thicker roots. Wear work gloves! You'll find out why if you don't!

Yes, and these things really work (although you have to be on your hands and knees). I've got a major weed problem, and these easily dig up the ground. I've slicked through the top of 1/4-1/2 inch thick weed stems when trying to dig them up (hope they don't grow back).

I put some gripping tape on the handle to maintain grip integrity.

Yet the individual knives have hit the front page at $16 twice in the past year, so this is a good post, just overdue.

Probably true for cheaper models

That's true. The knives themselves do not mention China, only "Made in Japan" and the reviews of the individual knives confirm this.

To be fair, I have no doubt the Chinese could make a knife of this quality or higher, but it would be priced accordingly.

I bought one of these a couple years ago at pandemic-inflated prices and do not regret it one bit. Granted it hasn't seen heavy use, but it's super-sharp and extremely handy for light gardening tasks. It'll easily take off small branches and bust through clay soil. Be very careful with the blade, even a light graze will draw blood -- maybe that's a me-issue. But wearing garden gloves and keeping the thing sheathed when not in use takes care of that.

Thanks OP. I got a weekend worth of weeding and could use any advantage I can get. I recently started using a Japanese sickle which has been a great addition to my arsenal.

Per 4th review down on the single item listing:

The two pack if you're wondering is the same as the original it's just two. Since it was cheaper for the two I was wondering, were these different than the original? They're not. They appear to be exactly the same. Also, there was discrepancy in the writing of the listing at one point it said they came from China. Every marking on this tool says Japan, as do the sticky labels on it.

also, the single item listing also lists snow joe as distributor:
[AUTHENTIC NISAKU/TOMITA MANUFACTURING]: Exclusively Distributed by Snow Joe, LLC
