Bonus tip, you can also use the battery spray protector on the posts. It is a red liquid that also helps a lot.

Тhey work because they create barrier between top surface of the battery and posts with terminals. Due to change of temperature you get condensation on the surface of the battery which creates parasitic carrent slowly draining battery and increasing number of charge-discharge cycles, which shortens battery life and corroding terminals. You don't need it only if you operate your car in very dry conditions. So don't listen to the idiots, get it and use it. I also recommend to apply special petroleum based battery post protector after installation of new battery. It is an isolator. You apply it after terminals are connected. You need to remove it before reconnecting them.

Apply the jelly after you connect the terminals, but remove the jelly b4 reconnecting them?
Is it just me or is that confusing to anyone else?

It's confusing if you don't understand the concept. 1st make a good electrical connection then 2nd apply the coat (like paint). If removing the connection, also remove the "paint". The coating insulates, or prevents water from touching the metal.

Would dielectric grease work?
I got a few of these earlier in the year (this has been a perpetual deal) for my toys with plans to install once the snow is gone. It's a great S&S stuffer too, can't beat $0.97
