Lower and lower we go. Just when I resigned myself to wait for the 7800xt, this thing closes in on $600. Ugh, what to do, what to do. My Vega56 is getting a bit long in the tooth

Yeah considering this out performs the new rtx 4070 for cheaper too. The only real advantage of the 4070 is the latest gen DLSS and RTX and it uses 1/3rd less power but for games the 6950 is better most of the time

We are probably a year away from seeing the 7900 somewhere in this price category, especially if we see a radeon 8000 series.

Realistically the free game is just icing, but I wish they would allow you to pick a game from a few. The Last of Us is just not for me.

Real solid deal otherwise!

I've heard from allot of my friends that got the 4 series that DLSS 3 completely blows and they never use it.

That it makes the visuals really smooth and stable but is responsive as mud. "Feels and looks like the most visually perfect 30 fps experience possible".

They say that they would never use it for any reason and I've seen very similar sentiments in more critical reviews.

But these are guys that like playing Fortnite at 300 fps 🤷

Benchmarks on this seem pretty solid, was looking up comparisons to my existing 3070 and some nice jumps for games I'm into like Hitman 3.
.
Tempted, but I feel like prices haven't bottomed yet, and I'm not in any huge hurry, so I'll probably sit it out a bit longer.

Given the vram on this card, it's likely the better buy considering some games already utilize 12GB which the nvidia equivalent is running at. I'd bank on future proofing. Last gen AMD cards have aged a bit better than nvidias on the mid tier

Honestly I think this will probably go lower if the RTX 4070 comes in anywhere near its MSRP ($600). The 6950 XT might be the better choice at 4K with its more generous allotment of VRAM, but it doesn't offer much of a benefit over the RTX 4070 at lower resolutions. I suspect that the pricing of the RTX 4070 will further pressure the price of the 6950 XT downward.

It's also worth noting that the power efficiency of the RTX 4070 is way better than the 6950 XT. You'll burn half the power with the RTX 4070 while getting similar performance. Especially if you're using the card frequently, you might be adding $100+ over the lifetime of the card just in the power usage difference between the RTX 4070.

In closing, it's crazy that upper-midrange GPUs are $600. I'm going to keep using my RX 580 that I bought for $200 a few years ago until prices become a bit more reasonable.

The Microcenter closest to me has at least 102 RTX 4070s for $599.99.

The inventory of $600 cards in Virginia is 20, 16, 7, 9 , "25+" and "25+"

I am hoping the 6950's go lower, but I am not sure because they are running low on stock at Microcenter. They only have 3 variants of the 6950 near me. A couple of weeks ago, I feel like there were at least 6 to 8 variants.

That's a really good sign! Plenty of inventory for a new launch means that demand is soft and nVidia will eventually have to capitulate on pricing.
