I Dought it will go below 450$. You will need a new motherboard, memory, and CPU for a 900$ build. That is for a mid-low build. The FX-8350 still brings 100$ on ebay.com

yeah but he's not wrong. This chip at this price is use case specific. Not a great deal for most people I'd say.

5950x is for people who need more physical cores. Now with the 13th gen and 7950x out, it has even more limited use.

It's a good upgrade for someone on a 2700X or something like that and don't want to buy a new motherboard and ram (DDR5).

Absolutely not meant for standard users. This is for people who need more Physical cores than what Intel provides when this released. This isn't meant for general desktop or gaming usage. It's meant for things like VMware and running servers.

I've upgraded my 3900 to these right before the 7950 released. Expected them to be more pricier so just pulled off the trigger on like $550. I did made enough workload with it but still I think at this point that 7950x is under $550 most of the time, I believe it would just worth to spend extra $300 ish on upgrading all mobo & ram, don't think that 200~300 would affect your life when you're dropping 500 on CPU. For a new PC, there's really 0 reason to buy these over 7950. Unless you're really that lazy to take everything out of your PC and upgrading from old am4 machine (which I was), just jump on 7950.

Wrong. AM4 is a mature platform. You can make a great high end PC with this at a steep discount compared to the current offerings on AM5. I just built a $3000 PC around this 5950X which would have cost closer to $5000 with 7950X for not a lot of real world benefit, instead i can use the $2000 I "saved" for future GPU upgrade

Nope. Asus Hero AM4 + 128GB DDR4 is $800~ish, on AM5 it's closer to $1400-1500~ish. Meanwhile, PCIe 5 devices are still non-existent, and all your old GPU offerings still offer the exact same performance as before. There's literally no reason to upgrade to 7950X. At least wait until AMD releases Zen 6, it will likely be a lot more compelling at that point

The 5950X is absolutely perfect as long as you know why you're getting it instead of every other CPU out there

For those who arguing 7950x and 5950x just ask yourself coup of questions.

1. Since 7950x requires more power supply would you need to upgrade your power supply?

2.How much do you wants to do with your cpu other than gaming?

3.Do you have comparable pcie gen4/gen5 devices to release full potential of your motherboard/cpu?

4.How long would you to be expecting of depreciation of your pc in next few years. It's worth of your budgets?

I think this is a reasonable summary.

For single core, 5xxx Ryzen are beat by 13th gen Intel and 7xxx Ryzen, of course. Thus this setup (a LOT of cores, but not quite as fast as the latest) is best for VMware, rendering, etc. when you know you can use all those cores.

Games and general use only uses a few cores.
