I know all the new CPU's are coming out soon but I don't think you'll get 7950x for under $900 so if you're looking for 16c 32t for a budget, go for it.
I've seen $520 on microcenter for a while but I believe this is the lowest price I've ever seen.

Not even close. Unless you are buying a 16 core processer for single core use then 5950X is way faster. 5950x also uses less power and creates less heat.

I'm pretty sure for gamers there are better options, but for my specific use case - ability to spin up a whole bunch of VMs in a lab testing my clients scenarios - those 16 cores are used and 72mb cache comes handy.
That's not accurate.

Good deal for this specific CPU, but 12th gen Intel run circles around any last gen processors for a fraction of the cost

That's not accurate.

I mean that should be the most case for who buys high end cpu's. There's just way too much people think PC as a gaming rig and whines that 8 core, 10core processor performs better on gaming.

I know that the 12900 tops this processor, but that's roughly $500 as well. This is the lowest I have seen this processor. I'm using it in my current build and it's a beast of a processor, overkill for gaming.

Ripoff, this CPU is not a good deal by any means, you can get a processor just as good or better for quite a bit less. 12700k for example.

No one man should have all that powah (in my Schwarzenegger voice, lol). I opted for a 5800X instead and that's a beast in it's own right. Congrats

with a massive 16 cores, efficiency over intel, and ddr5 prices super high while not necessarily being better than ddr4, you might as well buy this and use it until 2nm becomes a thing. this thing seems good enough for 1440/4k gaming until nvidia 6000 series GPUs.

Here's some data folks can look at. It's not representative of every workload in the world but gives a good idea. https://chipguider.com/?p=intel-c...laptops%29.

5950x is a bit better in multi, the intel is quite a lot stronger in single core. Intel is about 20% cheaper. I think the 50 series makes the most sense if you have an am5 board IMO. 500 at this point seems high still, if it does to you too and your on am5 5900x does most of what this does and is as low as 350 at times. I picked it up for 360 sometime back a year ago upgrading from a 2700x.
