woah $799. Do you regret not waiting or is that exactly the reason you spent $799?

I was thinking of getting the 5900x but at $150 difference the 5950x really looks appealing. Could I ask what motherboard did you use and how much ram do you have inserted? Do you do any video editing as well as gaming? Are you satisfied with your motherboard and ram or would you wish you had done something different? Did you use liquid or air cooling. I just like to discuss with real users on what they do in the real world while I listen to these "experts? proclaim which configuration gives the fastest output on a particular application. If you have the time it would be appreciated.

I paid this for a scalped 5800X.
But then I sold it two weeks later barely used for $500, when I got my 5900x for $600.
So only $100 lost, not bad.

Same here, handles everything i throw at it and the some. I have mine with the fclk at 2000mhz, 4000mhz ballistix memory(32gb 3600mhz), crosshair impact and a rx 6900xt. All in a nr200.

I personally snagged one myself.

I already have a 3950x, which is inside of a Truenas server. I'll probably swap this 5950x into that box, because its a little bit faster, and put the 3950x back into my desktop.

I know a lot of people are going to say something about the new alder lakes, but when you run the box 24/7 the efficiency of the AMD processors make a difference.

I can finally replace my old i5-2500k in my pfsense box with the 3400G.

Hope this sees me through for the next few years.

Almost bit on this. I think we're going to see one more smallish price drop or sale to bring it to $500, even it it only happens once.

Most people buying a 16 Core processor I would assume are using it to make money. The gained performance and timed saved completing CPU bound tasks are probably worth the $250 over 9 months.

I only point this out to show it isn't always the best idea to wait months for deals.

The 5900 has higher frequency per core so that's something to think about
