I've got a 4090 w 3900x that I know is a major bottleneck. I do both gaming and productivity on my machine. Will this still be a big bottleneck or no?
I know if I go AM5 I gotta buy a lot more stuff - MB / Ram. And then if I still gotta upgrade I dunno whether to wait for next zen or just hop on 7950x…

I'm in a similar situation with a 3900X. I think moving to the 5950X is a more cost effective solution (around $200 all-in after selling used 3900x). It's got a 29% higher cpu mark score for a drop-in. See if that works first, then move to AM5 only if you have to. I'm still waiting for the 5950X to drop more in price.
