For gaming, you'll be hard pressed to need more than 6 cores on the 5600x. I doubt you'll find much benefit past 6 cores until at least 2026, and probably 2028.

But.... I get oh so much delight out of seeing a screenful of workers when I run prime95 *cackles delightedly*

Can you list what games and applications that take advantage of 8 cores?

Engineering/CAD, number crunching, photo/video editing, transcoding video. Compiling software like Linux kernels.

Or, if you want to play 2 or 3 video games.

This cpu is good and more better than intel. I have been loyalist to intel. Recently switched to ryzen so far no complaints.

I ditch 5950 and go for thread-ripper pro 3975. Reason the ryzen 9 5950x support only 24 pcie lanes. To take full benefit of pcie gen 4 with sli dual cards kingpin and raid 10 mnve. I need at least 48 pcie lanes or more.

So i sold my 5950x upgrade to threadripper pro.

If you dont need more than 18 pcie lanes then the 5950x is very good.

This processer is overkill for most people. Nothing wrong with it, just most people will never use 1/2 of its intended power.

Faster than my 3950x in gaming lows of 260fps now are 330fps in Overwatch 2080ti water cooled. Bounces off 400fls cap more.
However in Adobe Lightroom performance increase so small I can't tell using 3800c14 ram Average 10,000 picture bulk export still takes hours with video mixed in. All in all if only gaming I'd buy a 5800x and 3070rtx any higher is diminishing returns very quickly. Also don't recommend full custom water loop. $800 for cpu and ram to be cooled with maybe 150hz extra over a h115i. Lessons learned 🤣
