Try NAPS2. I switched to NAPS2 and I'll never go back to proprietary scanner software. As long as Windows recognizes the device as a connected scanner, it will work.
Great printer so far, got it last deal time. Very happy. Super quiet, drivers for latest MacOS, scanning works without issues.
I don't print much so maybe 200 prints so far if at all. Connected via Ethernet to router as network printer. I had the MF-227dw before for many years and this is a great replacement. Excellent print quality and no issues. I am using 100% recycled paper. No jams whatsoever.
I bought this printer for my in-laws last time it was this price. Seems to be pretty decent. I haven't replaced the toner yet but I did make sure 3rd party cartridges are available. I have another Canon printer (don't recall the number but it's a ca. 2018 color model I bought for about $250 on sale back then) that I use with 3rd party toner without a problem so I don't expect any issues with this one.

Its annoying that so many of these printers are black. I put my Brother laser printer in a dark closet and can barely see the buttons due to the dark color. My Brother printer currently has voltage spikes every 30min or so that leads to popping sounds and funny sound that comes out of my computer speakers the same time this happens..I'm looking to replace.
You somehow used several words to say nothing. But hey, I got some sweet spiral bits for my router. And now my pressure washer has a leak. Don't worry, nothing I said is related to this printer deal either.
I have a printer that uses the Canon 137 cartridge and we tested the cheapos vs the Canon cartridge and the Canon printed more sheets for the money. The better quality from the Canon cartridge is a bonus.
The printer being discussed here uses an 051 cartridge and separate 051 drum. I was comparing to see how it was against my current printer and the alleged page yield from the 051 is 1700 sheets and the 137 is 2400 sheets....but the 137 is cartridge and drum all in one. I'm passing for that reason.
No generic has ever yielded anywhere close to as much as OEM toner for me (I'm happy with a generic if it yields half), along with crappier/grainier grayscale. Some have even exploded toner into the printer. But the cost savings are immense (80% less than OEM for my printers) so I still use them.

I bought this printer about a month ago when it was at this price. I love it so far. The scanning is pretty crisp and tunable, prints pretty fast. Airprint works flawlessly and I have been using it in network mode, connected via wifi.
To get it to work as a network printer for windows machines, you NEED to use the software they send on a CD with the printer. The software on their website doesn't work.
Don't know about windows. But I get to things from my macbook without additional software. Also print from my android. I scan using my phone with the Print application from Canon
For reference I got this from Walmart right when covid started for $100. The printer status shows I have printed over 600 documents.
The only thing I miss about this printer is lack of duplex functionality. I have to manually to odd and even pages manually and flip over pages
Scan 8 images per minute is pretty slow, if you have 25 page document, it will take 3,5 minutes to complete the whole scan. It also doesn't say if it scans both sides on one pass, that's more operation and waiting time.
The printer sucks because it is black and has buttons that can't be read without a flashlight. Is that better?
Much better.
Still can be improved upon - Your Brother printer sucks for those reasons. Still weak correlation to this product.
Signs of obvious growth - You removed the voltage spikes as a point of conversation because, presumably, even you recognized that it has nothing to do with this Canon printer.
I've had a previous version for many years. It looks identical. A hinge for the flatbed scanner broke. The hinge looks particularly flimsy. Still works fine though. I've used a 3rd party toner with great success. The software side is where I have major complaints. Never got wireless scanning to work. Acrobat for Windows stopped recognizing the scanner since it moved to 64-bit so I have to scan to tiff then import to Acrobat. The scanner tool for Windows looks like it was written for Windows XP. For my next printer, I wanna try Brother but Canon would still be my next choice.

Sounds like one of those battery operated motion lights would fix this problem for a few bucks

Refurbished is almost the same price.

Didn't check but interested to know aftermarket toner costs between this Canon and Brother model here.

Do we need to replace the ink toner and drum?
Sorry, I don't know much about it, so trying to understand.
