the question is , is the savings rate locked in or Apple would change it to 1% after they meet their numbers?
Savings rate is not locked. They can change it at anytime.

Ignoring Apple savings for a second, is UFB Direct safe as a HYSA? A lot of people here are mentioning Ally, so I'm wondering why they aren't doing UFB for the higher rate instead? UFB is insured up to the same amount. Just curious what people think. Thanks.

Too bad the card is not too useful.
I've had this card twice and you're right it is terrible. The only thing good about it is the integration into your Apple products. Rewards are garbage there is no kind of benefit I had an issue in the customer service is just on the text messaging app which is completely ridiculous. I like my American Express platinum much better.

Personally, I use the boa cards that does 2.625% on everything and the 5.25% on categories.
They pretty much cover everything.
What Boa cards give 2.6% CB on everything?

Not easy to use. Tried to add the Apple savings account as a payment bank for my Apple credit card. You have write down the routing and account numbers from the Apple Savings screen and then switch to the Apple CC and enter the numbers manually and wait for the bank to be approved.
Come on Apple, you couldn't figure out how to make your CC and bank work together?
Compared to PayPal and even your average online bank, the usability is poor and the interest rate is just average.

Interest rate does not depend on amount of invested. Obviously one gets more interest income if account balance amount is higher. Many have their 401k in Fidelity, if want to park cash, it is easy as all non invested can just sit on money market.
Ok? I'm just saying if you are parking 40k for short term 6 months or a year ( has to be short term because these rates won't be there for 2 years) then there is no point of investing it in SPAXX when you can get same amount - 80$ with this account.

Thanks, PayPal was super easy
Took me only a couple of minutes
I think he means better user experience with Apple and it is true. I have been using Apple credit card for awhile, I would say their app is the best, very convenient, straight forward and easy to use, basically you can manage all infos, make payments, check interested fee, get virtual card numbers in one place

Exactly...

But for the low information (or caring) Apple user or those who finally realize that the sub 1% or less interest that their vacation money was earning, it seems simple to get them to move their money. A LOT of people don't usually have enough money to care how much interest they're earning on their cash and there is a LOT of money in the big mega banks paying nothing for interest. The big banks (ex. Chase, BOA, etc.) won't care - this will be a rounding error in the loss of deposits for them. This may put a little hurt though on the regional banks deposits.

For those, like you and I, who realize we can make more in interest at 10+ other different FDIC insured institutions with a little research, this is not a deal for us. In addition, there are still too many little unknown details with this Apple account that need to be addressed. Even DOC is still vetting this out.

This may eventually be a boon for those of use who do watch & chase interest rates. If Apple makes enough of a splash with these rates, it may drive other banks/fintech's to raise rates past 5, or even 6%, by summer time. (hoping this is the case)

It's also not worth the hard pull - especially for those who watch/track their 5/24 credit report inquiries, chasing valuable Chase Credit Card bonus signups.

This thread will get as many downvotes as your post - but your post was valid.

"Those who know, know!"
What's the best place to be on top of interest rates and promos, aside from just checking bankrates daily or something? Is there a subreddit that you focus on?

UFB Direct is owned by Axos Financial. They have been under investigation for shady practices since 2014.
An internal employee accused the CEO of funneling money to his personal account.
The whistle blower was subsequently fired by Axos. He filed a wrongful termination lawsuit, and won that case in 2022 for $1.5 million.

"The jury found that Erhart "reasonably believed" the bank's conduct included: high deposit risk concentration; giving a misleading response to a subpoena from the Securities and Exchange Commission; failing to disclose subpoenas to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the bank's regulator, in response to its request; and providing risky loans to criminals or politically exposed people, those who, because of their public positions or relationships, "may present a risk higher than other customers by having access to funds that may be the proceeds of corruption or other illicit activity," according to bank regulators."

Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. Stay away from UFB.
Eesh. Thanks for the heads up. What would be the safest HYSA you'd recommend?

UFB rate now 4.7% (4.81% APY), but still one of the highest savings rates out there.
$5,000 min balance to avoid $10 monthly fee
Does anyone know why UFB dropped their rate? It's the opposite for everyone else. I agree 4.7% is the highest, but 5.02% was a killer deal. Any thoughts on UFB - I heard their customer service is terrible.
