Thanks for the post. Seems like a good price for a decent machine. Any other opinions out there? Good deal for something in this price range? Any major features missing that can be had in this range that might be worth holding out for. Thanks

They indicate that "in Gateway country, people rule."

Does anyone know if this is actually true?

Memory is a single 8GB DIMM, with a total of two DIMM slots, according to this review over on Reddit. Drive appears to be SATA; no indication if NVMe is supported. Previous gen didn't support NVMe.

FYI

- can charge with usb-c
- 200 nit screen
- ram not expandable (Gateway's website says no, but Reddit person says yes… 🤷 ♂️)
- can't find if it has ddr4 or ddr5 ram
- SATA ssd for second drive. Can't find anything on first drive…

On paper, the specs are good for the price (except that screen 💀), but I if I wanted a 14" Gateway… I'd get the 14" with the previous gen's laptop with a 1135G7 and 16gb of ram for $70 less… $105 less for refurb.

You can't compare these to the big brands, because of price. So don't.

Thanks guys, very helpful info. Still looks pretty solid other than crappy screen, but I don't care about that - just need a basic daily driver for web browsing, email, document editing. No gaming or real media use. Want fast enough processor and RAM that it'll work smoothly for a few years before needing replacement.

Greetings
The RAM is built in to the mother board therefore it can not be upgraded. We apologize for the inconvenience...

I got the i5 version of this with 16gb RAM last year with Intel arc mobile graphics. I have to say I'm impressed, especially with video encoding tasks. Only downsides so far is the keyboard isn't backlit and the screen backplate is metal, but the bottom is plastic, so the screen half is much heavier. This week I started to notice the hinge is starting to show wear in that it's not as stiff as when I first got it. Otherwise, it's been great.

I'm not sure how techie you may be, but you can open up most laptops. Tighten the hinge screws or add locktight to the screws.Unless there are stress cracks in the plastic near the hinges.

It's not problematic enough to crack it open yet, but worst case I can. I find that smaller laptops don't always go back together "perfectly." E.g. broken plastic clips, etc. So it's always a last resort for me.

I would buy this but during the last sale I bought an iPad 9th gen and Logitech Keyboard case for less and has served my portable computing purposes just fine.

Any more information on this one, ddr 4 or 5? Can the ram be upgraded?

I get why a shady outfit like Gateway (of today) might find it easier and cheaper to just state no upgrades available. This way the don't have to provide warranty coverage for broken bits during the tear down. Dell and Lenovo take that stuff into consideration when pricing the machines, "Gateway" is all about low price, less support equals cheaper price.
