So much bad info in this thread. I would like to make sure people understand the ev tax credit is not refundable. You need to calc your withholding to come in owing more than 7500 to get the full credit. If you only owe 2k, then your tax credit will only be 2k. Here is from the IRS website - The credit is nonrefundable, so you can't get back more on the credit than you owe in taxes.
Great post! The tax credit is extremely confusing. The govt and these car companies make it seem like you get $7500 back through tax rebate. But, how many people know that you have to owe tax money on your year end taxes to get anything back and have to owe more than $7500 get the full $7500 back.

Total scam and the govt should have made it much simpler. It was before this 2023 tax law.

Probably because the prices will continue to drop while the product gets better.

Everyone knows HW4 is out in the S and will be in the 3 and Y soon.

Everyone knows the 3 is getting a refresh next Q and Y will soon follow. resale value decreases when a updated model is released

But there is a perfect storm coming for pricing.

1. We are heading into or already in a recession. Inflation and high interest rates are taking their toll and will effect sales.

2. More competition everyday and only going to be more as we go, not less. Fluffers will say oh they have been saying this for years, but it is happening.

3. Tesla is in the middle of ramping production in plants as well as building a new one in Mexico. They have to sell what they make.

4. Tesla is as much about the stock than anything else and there is a lot of anticipated growth priced in and if they don't continue on their self proclaimed target of 20 million cars a years, there will be blood.

Musk has already said he is willing to sell cars at zero margin and make money on charging and service.

But that is why I would wait, the OP can chime in with his reasons.

Again. This is wrong information.

There is nothing related to your tax refund or withholding. As long as your total tax liability (line 16 1040) is greater than $7500, you will get full amount back. Read the wiki on the first page.

LOL Broke losers are forced to buy 2015 civics with $30,000 windshield price with 10% APR. Tesla isnt a repo operation like your local used car dealer who is on a first name basis with their local repo towtruck driver.
Guess you haven't seen the people who buy the 80k trucks. Tesla isn't some elite club. It's a car that anyone who gets a loan can afford. People are just not wanting them enough anymore and now they have a demand issue.

Holy crap both of you are wrong as hell.. please don't post unless you know what you are talking about.. Talk to your CPAs.. Use proper terminology.. learn the difference between tax liability and the amount of taxes you owe..

My fed tax liability for last year was $4800/- that too because of $45k worth selling cvs shares. If I am not selling any shares this year, my tax liability will be significantly less next year. So yes, it is viable only if you have 7500+ taxes per year to get it back. Is the 7500/- off car price still valid next Jan onwards? If so, would be a better time to buy it. Anyone can confirm this? Appreciate any help. Thank you
Smart people never pays taxes per former president..,

Hoping for some clarity as ive gotten mixed messaging on this. Is it line 16 on the 1040 or line 24 to find out what the tax liability is?

They give me as long as I wanted to inspect the car and I was determined to find some problem. The best I could see was that the one door gap was slightly different. In the end it was so slight, I rather not have them touch the car. I would open and close everything and then look for any cosmetic issues. Have them list it on the paperwork and I think you have a couple days and 100 miles to add anything you may have missed. Congrats.

No, and I think you would lose $3750 of the tax incentive. Is LFP battery not inferior to the existing batteries in LR?

Is that mean if my pay check deducted enough withholding and I don't owe, I won't get any refund?

If the EV is lucky enough to get 4 miles/kwh... videos I've watched the Tesla is getting near 4 OR at 4 on long trek. Putting around town it is not but same for ICE. I read statements like yours and it's making me go back to my original car I was eyeing... Toyota Hybrid Highlander, it's rated at 34/36, bigger, and nicer interior. If the model y is not do better than a hybrid, what's the point other than buying something that doesn't burn gas?
Average price of electricity is $0.15/kwh. so if you charge at home for the costs to be the same you need to get something that does about 70mpg. Check your power costs and if you have TOU and get better rates at night.
