Looking like Cybertruck will also be reasonably priced. Fingers crossed for the quadmotor under 90k!
You and I have a very different definition of "reasonably priced". I will not pay $90k for a damned truck (or any daily driver vehicle).

We haven't defined anything. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has. If Tesla could claim Level 3, they would. But they can't.

If "move in stalled traffic but can't self-drive itself without limitations" was the criteria, then Tesla would be Level 3. But it isn't.
What is your point? I thought we defined level 3 are comparing what they can do, not what NHTSA said; list some autopilot features that MB can do but Tesla can't.

The Prius runs circles around Tesla's. They look way better, way better build quality and way more reliable. Not to mention the Prius will be cheaper to fuel quicky. The Tesla is also an eye sore compared to the new Prius.

When you drive a Tesla you are making a political statement and it's quite embarrassing.
Satire?

You can't possibly think a front-wheel-drive economy vehicle is in the same league as a Tesla sports sedan with its low center of gravity, double wishbone suspension, rear weight bias, etc? Or how about Tesla's incredible reputation for redefining occupant crash safety (due much in part for not having to have a crumple zone with an ICE in it, but also due to a very rigid body)? Or that it's a much quieter vehicle too? I mean, I guess if you're really boring or live in traffic jams, none of this would matter much.

Speaking of Toyota, a few months ago they disassembled a Tesla for research and called it a work of art. No other vehicle manufacturer is capable of building a car like Tesla; their teams aren't as integrated.

This is old news now, but look up Sandy Monroe's bit on Tesla's Superbottle as a microcosm.

Tesla is many years ahead of the rest of the industry and there's debate as to whether that gap is growing or shrinking. (Probably a bit of both, depending on which specific aspect is being discussed.)

can you please explain more
They can't, because they're wrong about how the credit works. Your withholdings have nothing to do with it

Does the Model Y LR has LFP battery yet?

No, the only LFP Tesla in the US is the Model 3 RWD.... which is why it's the only one who had its credit cut in half to $3750- all the other 3/Y models are still $7500.

Quote from squish View quoted comment :
No, and I think you would lose $3750 of the tax incentive. Is LFP battery not inferior to the existing batteries in LR?
There are pros and cons to each type of battery.

Generally LFP is going to do best in situations where you don't need extremely high energy density and aren't as concerned about weight--- hence why it's used mostly by Tesla for stationary storage, and for their shortest range Model 3.

Is that mean if my pay check deducted enough withholding and I don't owe, I won't get any refund?
Again- withholding and refund amounts have nothing to do with the credit at all

Hoping for some clarity as ive gotten mixed messaging on this. Is it line 16 on the 1040 or line 24 to find out what the tax liability is?

Line 24.

I mean I can see why someone might say 16 (I'd go into why- but 1000% it'd just confuse more people) but it's much simpler to just look at line 24, as if you weren't buying a car. Because that's the line where you get your total tax owed including all "routine" credits you'd be taking anyway (like child credits)-- but before you get into the irrelevant withholding stuff that keeps confusing everyone.

If THAT number is $7500 or higher, you get the full credit. If it's lower you get whatever that number is.

Going to cancel MYLR order tomorrow— Progressive quoted me $1840/yr. I have not had an accident in over 25 years nor a ticket in 20 years. I live in MA and work from home, driving about 5k a year. Yeah, they offered me only $9.94 on my current Honda Accord policy for the low mileage i put on my car. What a joke! My order was places on Feb 6 with delivery of May 1 to May 29. No VIN issued. What a bummer! I was able to get the lower price that came out 2 days back but am not willing to burn $1800+ on Insurance.
I was suckered in to compare my insurance with progressive and eventually I had to call them. It was the first time I had someone on the phone that was trying to get me to put the phone down once he heard my rates and they could not come close. I wanted to keep asking him questions to see if what they were quoting was in any way different to my coverage. Eventually he got rude and put the phone down. $1520, 2 teslas, 3 drivers (one a teenager)

The question is whether you trust L3 driving from any other company. Nobody really has cars running around for many years collecting valuable data to run all the AI training but Tesla.

Don't fall asleep on L3...
There are car makers that are confident enough to say you can take the eyes off the road under certain conditions. Tesla gives you a lot of cool features, probably more than any other carmaker but if you crash anywhere and your eyes were off the road, it's your fault.

You realize if demand was decreasing they'd be selling fewer cars, right?

Instead they keep selling more of them.
That's both true and not true. Demand can be dropping and they can still sell more cars. For instance, if there's a 1 year wait list, there is huge demand and clearly not enough supply. If you can now get one with a 2 month wait list, then supply is catching up to demand and the supply:demand ratio isn't as skewed as it was. So, there can be less demand and still sell more. One of the ways to increase demand is to lower production, which means you make more per vehicle, but less overall. Another is to lower prices so that you sell more cars, again while making lower profit per unit but making more in volume. As things sit currently, a Tesla dealer parking lot could be the size of a gas station. However, the one near me has plenty of space for actual inventory vehicles, so I assume they expect to have inventory at some point.

Well... there's one.. (Mercedes)

And the conditions in the US include:

Max 50 mph
Only on specific roads
Only with another car close in front of you.
Only if you're basically staying in your lane and not needing to take exits or interchanges.
Only in Nevada, specifically (right now, they're hoping to get to other states over time)

But otherwise- sure.

Don't get me wrong-- if you happen to be someone who spends a lot of time on I-15 in rush hour through Vegas (which is about the only place I'm aware of ALL those conditions are met with any frequency) it's probably really cool to be able to read a book or something for a few minutes... And if they ever get it certified in places where more than a few people have those other conditions (LA traffic, Long Island Expressway, etc) it'll be really cool there too. But it's a super super narrow niche right now.

Of course it is. Just like literally every other car/system in the world except that one super narrow application Mercedes thing.

Great post! The tax credit is extremely confusing. The govt and these car companies make it seem like you get $7500 back through tax rebate. But, how many people know that you have to owe tax money on your year end taxes to get anything back and have to owe more than $7500 get the full $7500 back.

Total scam and the govt should have made it much simpler. It was before this 2023 tax law.
This is incorrect. You don't have to owe tax on your year end taxes. You can have a refund and still get 7500 as long as your tax liability for the year exceeds the 7500. At least this is my understanding from friends that have bought and claimed the credit in the past.

Still too expensive for like 90% of people. They need to get the price down to about $25,000 new
Lower income people shouldn't be buying new vehicles in the first place. The average age of a new car buyer is something like 56 years old, meaning people who have accumulated wealth and are at the top end of their earning years. I'm 42 and still have never purchased a new vehicle because I want some other sucker to take the depreciation hit.

Name another EV company that can self drive itself on the road as well as a Tesla, and has one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time running it's company (Elon will have a larger legacy than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs once it's all said and done).

Here's a Tesla self driving. Super impressive what Tesla has accomplished:

The self driving is thousands extra. Cadillac and others have self driving.

Is there a way/hack around the 300K AGI limit?
The only hack I can think of is to have lets say your father buy the car. You give him the money and he later gives you the 7500/IRS.
