Is there an online calculator to determine how much of the tax credit you would qualify for?

There is no calculator for tax credit as far as I know. It is just simple.
If you paid more than $7500 federal tax, you will get back $7500.
For example, if you paid $13000 Federal tax this/last year, you will get back $7500 when you file tax returns next year. But if you paid $3500 Federal tax, you get back only $3500.

I keep reading about it never being considered a "refund" so if throughout the year I paid $18k and I owe nothing more (tax bill is $0), then I am not getting any refund. If, however, I wait to pay any tax and owe $18k while filing, I get to reduce (not refund) the liability of $18k by the full credit. I keep reading that you get no checks for this credit, no refund. I suppose I am misinterpreting it, as if that is the case then this is really only meant for rich people.

Yeah none of that is correct.

If you paid $18,000 in taxes, and had a tax bill of $0 left to pay (excluding the EV rebate) you would get a refund of $7500 for buying this car. In fact you could get a refund of $15,000 for buying two such cars.

When people say non-refundable they mean if you only had $4000 in total tax owed for the year you don't get the other $3750 refunded above what your tax burden was.

How much you pay in via withholding, and how much your "refund" would otherwise be, have nothing to do at all with how much of the $7500 you get.

If you paid $18k in federal taxes from your paycheck withholdings, then uncle Sam will write you a check for $7500 next year when you file your taxes.

Wow, looks like Tesla is physically unplugging the radar sensors when you bring your car in for service.

Pretty sneaky too, not telling anyone. Sell you something, then disconnect it later? Can you imagine if another car company did that?

Watch your service orders.

I don't understand the problem.... (and it seems you don't either).

First- this is a thread about buying a NEW Tesla Model Y. Which doesn't even have a radar sensors.

Second- Tesla software has not used that radar sensor since at least Mid-Fed 2022. What do you think you are "losing" by having it disconnected on an older car that isn't using it?

All it's doing remaining connected is wasting power, and potentially causing software issues (in one iteration it would cause a memory leak by not booting up properly on occasional reboots- disconnecting both avoids spending vehicle power on literally nothing and prevents the unit from sending problem signals from an unused part to the cars data bus in the future)

Best decision I ever made was getting MYP a couple months ago. Will slowly replace all my cars with Tesla. And the last 6 cars I've owned have been Lexus. Currently have 1 Tesla and 3 Lexus. The Tesla is the go-to car. Lexus's just sit in the driveway. Haven't been to a gas station in over 3 months. Probably going to have to start pouring STA-BIL in the Lexus gas tanks! Because they just sit like dinosaurs now.

Maybe you are too obtuse to understand, so let me help ya here

Remember your little bit about credibility when you were stalking that random internet stranger?

This speaks to the credibility of Tesla. They sell you something, then disable it and ultimately completely unplug it altogether. Not giving the user a choice. I have never ever heard of that, so it is worth noting for potential customers.

OK, so why disconnect it then? Your post makes no sense. It is disabled and not in use, so why?

Oh, maybe Tesla's radar units have also been subject to water intrusion problems that have required the complete replacement of sensors so they disable and disconnect them so they don't have to replace them?

I thought they were disabled and an OTA update could fix a software issue easier than physically disconnecting them.

So why not just tell the customers?

Why do it in a sneaky manner?

Anone buying a Tesla should be aware of these business practices before they make a large purchase.
