Just my ¢.02, but I've been using the 5700 for nearly 3 years and played a multitude of VR games with no issues relating to my GPU.
Oh, man. It would be really... financially imprudent of me to buy this right now, but I've been waiting for this exact 6800gt since BF. It'll be twice as much as I've ever paid for a graphics card, but I am purchasing mainly for VR gaming. The 6800xt, by my limited research looking at 4k specs on tomshardware, is a significant step up from the 6750xt and down.
It'll just be a fantastic bonus that I can run basically anything at 1440p as well. I'm gonna have to stare at it in the cart another hour.

Beat me to it, was just about to post this. Lowest I've personally seen on this. Had been considering this when it dropped to $539, but with the extra $20 off, I decided to pull the trigger.

Aren't AMD cards known to be poor performers with VR games?

I'm by no means an expert, but several benchmarks place the 6800xt about neck-and-neck with the rtx 3080, with some games performing better per card. Specifically, Half Life:Alyx saw better performance from the 6800xt. And it's significantly cheaper. I would prefer an nVidia card, but their price to performance beats my already very strained budget.
