What does Nitro really give? I "boosted" a server once but I think it needed multiple boosts to do anything useful and my trial ran out after that.

I'm generally curious as to why anyone would buy this.

I have always wondered the same thing. My 12 year old son said he and his friends want/have it to be able to use custom emojis, and couldn't really give me any other reasons.

I had a three month trial a while back and was excited to finally be able to share quick videos from my phone to my group of friends, but even the added MB per file, still wasn't enough to send an 8 second clip recorded on my phone.

Pretty useless imo.

What gave you that idea? Certainly not the Slickdeals cash back part, right?

That's actually the only perk I know of as well, the access to the emojis

Pretty sure you can upload 500MB files each time

https://discord.com/nitro
Quick Google search tells you all of the benefits. Pretty worth if you pay $10/month for it normally.

At the time of my free trial, the limit was 100mb. https://ifttt.com/explore/how-to-...mb-discord

With my phone, 4k60hz, that was the equivalent of about 5 seconds of recording.

and unlike Signal, WhatsApp, etc- discord has no automatic resizing tools. it's not worth the effort to manually resize videos on my own to send a friend, when I can just use a different app.

Well there's your issue. You want to send uncompressed 4K60Hz video? The file size gonna be huge.
I don't think that's the intended use case for the increased upload size, but if it doesn't meet your expectations, that's okay.
I've used discord to send UHD photos, but even then you don't need 5MB for that.

I'm not asking for it to be uncompressed, if you read my reply thoroughly, I'm stating that unlike Signal, WhatsApp, etc- Discord doesn't pop up and ask if you want them to compress your video- or even just compress the video on its own. Just flat out denies sending a video unless I manually go into my gallery, click the video, choose the new compression value, save under a different file path to not override my original full scale video, then open discord, find the downscaled video and hit send.

That's a lot of stupid steps when you can just use something else.

Ah yes, paying an annual fee to be able to spam emojis.

This is why Americans stay perpetually poor.

  • 2 free boosts per month
  • custom emojis
  • custom profile like color and border, etc.
  • higher streaming quality/fps
  • higher upload limits (I can upload like 1 min videos from my phone)
  • they just added super reactions
  • new soundboard
  • higher character limit for messages
Mostly advertised towards people who use discord a ton, like me, plus I don't mind giving my money out to Discord.
