As an owner of both FDM and Resin. If you don't need the large build area of an FDM printer I would strongly encourage purchasing a resin printer before FDM. Low cost FDM printers are very finicky. I spent a ton of time getting my Ender 3v2 working reliably and then things break or your nozzle gets plugged or your filament absorbs water and gets brittle. You are constantly working to make sure the bed is exactly dialed to the nozzle. There is just a ton of effort involved in getting good quality reliable prints and they always seem to end up mediocre.
I contrast this experience with my Mars2. I literally took it out of the box ran the bed level process (1 minute) poured in resin and printed perfect rooks (chess pieces). The basic print is far beyond any detail I could ever have achieved on my Ender. The second print worked perfectly. I have printed dozens of prints with probably over a hundred gaming minis and had only a small handful of failures (either bad support design or too cold a temperature in my shop). Resin is just super easy to do successfully.
You mentioned process and PPE. Those are both legitimate concerns as is temperature.
First PPE. You will need a box of nitrile gloves. You will use 1-3 pairs per print.
I print in my shop with the printer in a cabinet the smell is pretty trivial in such a large space. I don't wear a mask but some people do. I don't recommend resin if you don't have a non living space to keep it.
You will also need a roll of paper towels handy.
You will need two tanks of alcohol or simple green for rinsing your prints. I use denatured alcohol from home Depot it is cheap and works great.
You will need some sort of uv light for curing unless you live somewhere with very reliable sunlight.
Resin has a very long shelf life. It is much better than filament which gets brittle after a few months out of the package.
Resin is a bit more expensive at about $25-30 per kg. But it goes a long ways.
From a cost perspective plan for at least $60 of initial outlay to get printing. This can go up to $200 if you buy one of the wash and cure stations.
Resin is unpleasant to work with, it stinks and makes my skin irritated on contact, don't touch it.
That said, it is so much easier to be successful with and even with the hassle and increased cost I use my resin printer 10 to 1 against my FDM. It is just easier to get what I want. I hope this is informative.
For those printing tabletop minis I recommend printing with a mix of 10-20% tough resin and 80-90% standard resin makes much more durable minis.
My opinion is no... There are two styles of cheap printers: fused deposition modeling, and resin. This is the latter.

I'm not going to claim to be an expert, and my knowledge may be dated, that said... they both have advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, the disadvantages of resin printers are enough to keep me away, and I think should keep any newbie away.

So what's good about resin printers:

1) Prices of the printers are generally comparable but I think resin printers are usually cheaper.
2) They are higher resolution and handle fine detail MUCH better than FDM.
3) They are usually faster than FDM.

What's bad:

1) They are substantially more expensive to operate. The consumables are much more expensive.
2) Build area is usually smaller than FDM.
3) I believe the mechnical properties and durability of the prints are susbtantially worse than resin.
4) I believe the unused resin (which is very expensive) has a shelf life.
5) Dealing with the printers and liquid resin is far messier and the uncured resin is often quite toxic. You definitely need PPE to handle it.

If you're looking to print a lot of fine figurines, or tabletop gaming figures, resin printers would be the best option. If you are looking to print mechanical parts, large parts, or use it infrequently, FDM is DEFINITELY the way to go.

For me each of the disadvantages are basically a deal killer.
Thanks OP, just got it one. This will be my first 3d printer, so wish me luck. I asked my wife to talk me out of it, and she hit the buy now button for me 😂

Wow $119 to get into Resin printing? I ordered one. I remember looking up this type of printer a couple years back and seeing $600 for 4k resin printers. At this price it's worth diving in.

It also has a nice big print bed for a resin and I read that Mono screens last longer and print faster than RGB ones.

My son has been wanting us to get a 3D printer for some time now. Im completely ignorant to this stuff. After reading through these comments, I think I'll pass on this one. That being said, any suggestions on a filament one? I'd like to get one big enough to print things like Star Wars helmets. Thanks!

That is disappointing, I wonder why it isn't supported?

Nice deal. Pretty nice build size. I've had a filament printer for years primarily printing with ABS. I don't do a lot of printing but love having a printer when the time comes. I've been impressed with the look of resin prints but just couldn't justify buying one. At this price it's an easy purchase.

Now i need to find a deal on resin.

You're probably looking for something that has at least a 300x300x300 build plate. Creality's Ender series are decent for what they are; they've sold enough where if you ever have any issue, you can at least find pretty good help online, even if you do decide to modify some things on it.

I've never had a 3d printer before and don't know what to do with it. $120 for a 3D printer, it's not bad at all. In for one, decide what to do with it later.

It's a fun toy to play with for a few weeks making all sorts of "desk toys".. then, it sits in the corner for months until you decide to play again for a week or so making more useless toys.. then it sits for months again.

Resin is super dangerous.. that dude above who took his sons and shoots bravdo about not wearing a mask or gloves (and even says it irritates his skin) is not right in the head!

Anyone else have a very noisy power supply with theirs?

Just hooked mine up and the power supply makes a loud high pitched sound when the printer is off.

Turn it on and it gets even louder!

I've emailed FlashForge as there is no way this can be normal.

Did anyone get the Printer yet? Interestingly I got the Standard Photopolymer Resin in my mail through USPS from NJ. I still see FedEx tracking on it's way from Chino, CA. Wondering if they messed up my order or are we supposed to get 500g resin too with the printer.
