Just to expand on this...

AC works by using a powered heat exchanger that cools indoor air at the expense of heating outdoor air. It's really inefficient to do by any method, but it's all we have.

With both types indoor air is recirculated and cooled on the cold side of the heat exchanger from your room back into your room, while air is drawn onto the hot side of the heat exchanger making heating the air and then it sends this hot air outdoors. Heating the outdoors to cool your indoors.

Where things differ with hoses is the source of the cool air...

With a single hose the hose is used only to send hot air outdoors. This means the unit pulls cold air from in your room to cool the heat exchanger. This air is pulled from the cool indoor air you have used electricity & paid to cool which is vented outside. That cool air sucked out of the room is replenished with uncooled air from the surroundings of the room - either from outdoors or warmer parts of the house, whichever leaks more. This means a portion of your cooled air is perpetually being "wasted" and sucked out of the room.

Dual hose systems use one hose as an inlet to pull outdoor air into the hot side of the AC to cool the heat exchanger. Cooled indoor air is recirculated across the cool side of the heat exchanger, cooling it further. The outdoor air that is drawn across the hot side is sent back outdoors by the second hose of the system, extra hot.

Dual hose systems are about 30% more efficient than single hose. Which means an 8k BTU dual hose is more effecient than a 10k single hose.

Frankly, though, all portables are trash compared to even a window unit. My experience is single hose portable ACs provide less than half the cooling of a window unit of the same BTU.

Only when it's absolutely impossible to install a window AC should a portable be considered.

I'm not really sure why I spent so much time to write all of this out now that I'm finished ... besides inertia of needing to finish.

I had 2 of these units in AZ. if you try to turn these things on in the blistering heat the compressor doesnt seem to turn on and you get no AC. I ended up returning both. They work fine if you have them in an area that is already cool.

I've got this in my grow room and it cools a 12x13 with no issues. The app works great. It no louder than a box fan. It's on the second floor and my only negative is that I can hear the humming in the room under it. I'm no pro but it's my understanding that a two hose unit will almost always be more efficient than a single hose.
Yes it's definitely more efficient. A single hose takes the room air you just cooled and passes it over the condenser and shoots it outside and it creates a negative pressure room after awhile. A dual hose takes outside air, passes it through the condenser and send it right back outside keeping the cool air in the room. All other things equal like btu rating and compressor type, a dual hose is always more efficient.

With all that said if you're trying to cool down a single room upstairs that runs hotter a single hose will work fine and still be cheaper than running your central air lower to cool one room colder.

I recall dimly being able to explain the science behind this. Something something heat exchange ambient. That is good to know... Ca summers not as bad as az but still hits 100+ regularly esp in recent decades.

Thanks for sharing. I see people here at getting it, but costco site says 3.5 star reviews. Still worth it?

They have a part in the instruction manual for side opening windows, it didn't apply in my case, so I can't speak to them.

You can read the installation manual here and see if it will work for you. https://www.hisense-usa.com/suppo...gd-hisense

Hard plastic or ones like these but same concept. Some A/C units come with crank window adapters. Our LG did.

Thanks! Appreciate posting the manual.

There's one 25" piece for the dual hose two 18" filler panels and one 9.5" panel.

Interesting the manual says windows up to 50" but 25+18+18 = 61inch

25+18+18+9.5 = 70.5"

I have ~ 58 horizontal-opening window. I don't see why I can't use all the supplied panels…

These are so hard to buy. I like to buy things based on reviews and it seems like just about every portable AC units have low star review ratings.

Do anyone know what kind of heater it has.. like a heat pump?
Will it be more efficient than a baseboard heater?

We bought it for the air conditioner feature. If you check the link to the manual I posted earlier, it looks like if you use it as a heat pump, it will collect moisture and you need access to a drain for it. See page 16 of the user manual.

^ Considering the current price of both portable ACs, I guess the Hisense is good enough. But if you can get the LG one for sale again, it'll definitely cool a lot better, at least from my experience.
A single hose is much worse than a dual hose. With a single hose you create a vacuum which pulls hot air from outside into the structure (heating up other parts of the structure).

If you have one room you're attempting to cool and don't mind other rooms heating up more, then sure a single hose will do. Otherwise do yourself and your energy bill a favor and get a dual hose or a window unit.

If you don't believe me try to cool a small shed with a single hose portable AC in it. You'll find that very quickly after turning on the AC the room will quickly reach the temperature of the outside air and will only feel cool where the air is blowing from the AC, the room itself will never cool down.

I'm presently staying in a place with such retarded idiotic windows which look newer than the building itself. Same as another user recommended plexiglass, cut holes. After reading comments i decided not to buy this 8k btu. I like dual hose and portability but if it's not powerful enough i don't want it. There's a much larger more expensive but also rated for 500 sq ft not so portable dual hose at costco. I don't like that model. It's huge compared to this one.
