Just to expand on this...

AC works by using a powered heat exchanger that cools indoor air at the expense of heating outdoor air. It's really inefficient to do by any method, but it's all we have.

With both types indoor air is recirculated and cooled on the cold side of the heat exchanger from your room back into your room, while air is drawn onto the hot side of the heat exchanger making heating the air and then it sends this hot air outdoors. Heating the outdoors to cool your indoors.

Where things differ with hoses is the source of the cool air...

With a single hose the hose is used only to send hot air outdoors. This means the unit pulls cold air from in your room to cool the heat exchanger. This air is pulled from the cool indoor air you have used electricity & paid to cool which is vented outside. That cool air sucked out of the room is replenished with uncooled air from the surroundings of the room - either from outdoors or warmer parts of the house, whichever leaks more. This means a portion of your cooled air is perpetually being "wasted" and sucked out of the room.

Dual hose systems use one hose as an inlet to pull outdoor air into the hot side of the AC to cool the heat exchanger. Cooled indoor air is recirculated across the cool side of the heat exchanger, cooling it further. The outdoor air that is drawn across the hot side is sent back outdoors by the second hose of the system, extra hot.

Dual hose systems are about 30% more efficient than single hose. Which means an 8k BTU dual hose is more effecient than a 10k single hose.

Frankly, though, all portables are trash compared to even a window unit. My experience is single hose portable ACs provide less than half the cooling of a window unit of the same BTU.

Only when it's absolutely impossible to install a window AC should a portable be considered.

I'm not really sure why I spent so much time to write all of this out now that I'm finished ... besides inertia of needing to finish.

I had 2 of these units in AZ. if you try to turn these things on in the blistering heat the compressor doesnt seem to turn on and you get no AC. I ended up returning both. They work fine if you have them in an area that is already cool.

I was able to install mine this weekend on a 57" horizontal sliding window. It's pushing the limits of the provided HW for sure but it works. Meaning the panels are attached at their ends so it's not as firm as I would prefer.

Picked up two of those bad boys last year. The first one was out of necessity as it got really hot in our office upstairs - I work from home and my wife runs a design firm. We paid basically full price for the Midea-branded version from Costco and it was just short of $600 after tax. It's a big machine, but worked very well and was relatively quiet.

Then Blain's Farm and Fleet had the exact same unit for sale except under the Danby near the end of the summer season for almost half the price. I went and got another one immediately for the other room across the hall. They both connect to the same app, as a matter of fact.

Am I wasting money and electricity in trying to install this in my 2 car garage for summer usage so I can do woodwork, 3D printing and resin printing in the garage during the Arizona summer?

I would probably go with a mini-split 18-24k for Arizona. Would save you some floor space also. Provided the garage has at least some insulation.

Just picked this up in store for $320. I'm in South Florida and only plan to use mine in the case of a prolonged power outage (hurricane) I can cool the bedroom with generator power or if my central AC dies over a holiday weekend like it did this New Year. I ran it real quick without the hoses hooked up just to see how loud it is. It seemed about as loud as a box fan on high, which is fine with me as I like the white noise to sleep. May be a bit much for someone using it daily, but for emergency use it should be fine.

I understand, but when I tried this hisense dual hose vs. the LG single hose, the LG unit was way cooler in my experience. I tested both in the same room, so that is why I said this specific hisense model was a return for me.

I wrote one of the six reviews on Costco. I gave it 5 stars. It's not that loud, just a smidge over 45 db next to the unit, and low 30s a couple of feet from the unit. It is no louder than a 5k BTU window unit I was using. Compared to a single-hose DeLonghi I had from Costco a few years back that I returned, this dual-hose unit is night and day better. The hoses are cumbersome, but, unlike the window unit, I can easily put the hoses in the window as needed, then remove them if I want to open my window. The window unit I'm stuck all summer with it installed in my window.

The box says it'll cool up to 550 SqFt.

I've only run it about an hour on a mid-80s day here in April Philly...not that often we get near 90 in April her in Philly. It cooled my 15x20 room from 83 down to 73 in half an hour.. I have no doubt it will cool well in July. I'm using it in my 3rd floor main bedroom on the sunny side of a brick row home. It is like an attic in summer, and my central A/C simply can't keep up.

Bought it from online Costco and returned after two days. The draining part is very annoying if you have carpet, and it shuts off every couple hours because of that. Poor design. Wifi never worked. And the temps are off by +/- 6 deg according to manual. Did not work for me.
