well there's this

and this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...rphotog-20

on the other hand as I'm finding out the hard way you get what you pay for Frown

My daughter's desktop PC has been giving me more problems than the other two desktop PC's and I can't help but notice I have what was a $100 motherboard at the time I bought in there, "ASUS TUF GAMING B450M-PLUS II AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard "

By contrast my son's desktop PC with it's " ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS AMD AM4 (3rd Gen Ryzen™) Micro ATX Gaming Motherboard " has not given me any problems at all (hopefully this continues to be the case Smilie ) .. strangely enough you can buy it for $160 through "newegg on ebay" but sold out on newegg's website itself

https://www.ebay.com/itm/29509387...R_zCnOL2YQ

or go to ebay and do a search for ebay item number:295093879368 if the link above doesn't work though sadly given the "seller pays for return shipping" part looks like the newegg/ebay return policy isn't as good as newegg website's hassle free return policy Frown

One thing I loved about the asus MB I linked is the easy flash bios ... asus walks you through how to do it but basically you get a cheap usb 2.0 thumb drive 16 GB or more, copy bios files onto it, plug it into the correct usb slot on the motherboard, hit the button on the back of the motherboard and it updates the bios without you needing anything other than the 24 pin power/motherboard cable plugged into the motherboard from the power supply.

https://www.asus.com/us/motherboa...550m-plus/

As I found out the hard way if the MB's bios does not support that particular CPU and you didn't upgrade the bios then the PC build will flat out refuse to start up and you're stuck with the pain of removing the cpu from the stock cooler, shipping the motherboard back to the seller, cleaning the thermal paste off the cpu and reapplying the thermal paste.. it's a huge pain.. MB's with the usb bios flash function are more expensive but absolutely worth it in my opinion.

do not more than $50 on this. DO NOT get this for gaming.
you'll need a bios update for most affordable boards. which requires an older cpu first.
this is really not worth yany one's time imo, unless you want to go through a ton of effort to figure out how to construct a potato.

i can't rationalize anyone buying this

This should be paired with a B550 or A520 motherboard because those will support the newer models like this

I thought I was going to run into this same issue with my 5800x and my Steel Legend MB, but I was able to get into the BIOS and update it to a compatible firmware. Then I installed an OS and everything was peachy.

Unlikely. What model is the laptop? They typically use a low power mobile variant. Also, typically the block work windows 11 is the TPM which is most often a separate chip on the motherboard and at minimum requires a motherboard where it can be enabled.

It's essentially impossible to change the CPU for that laptop to this, which is specially a desktop CPU, there's no socket on your motherboard to add this. If you need a Windows 11 capable laptop, there are sometimes work around, but that CPU is so old that you might need a new machine.

Have built several rigs, and honestly, it's not bad at all for $50 if you're just going to game on a 1080p standard 75Hz monitor based on all the Youtube videos I've seen. It's only ~12% less-performance than the Ryzen 5 3600.....but the 3600 is usually ~$120...which is about 2x as much. My young nephew's birthday is 2 months away and I have a spare B550 motherboard - so I've been thinking of building him a gaming rig because he really wants one - perhaps put this CPU in there, toss in my old GTX-1660-Super, and then give him my old 1080p monitor.
