Great deal on a bike with full dealer support (bike selection and sizing help, test rides, professional assembly, ongoing maintenance, warranty, etc). Please buy from or order though your local independent Specialized dealer so that they'll more likely still be there in the future when you need them.
This is nothing for a mountain bike. Specialized is a top-tier brand and this price is absolutely entry level for a quality bike. The $99 special at Walmart assembled by a random person without the correct training and not intended to actually go offroad (as implied by the VERY SPECIFIC LABEL ON THE BIKE) is not even remotely comparable.

You don't know what you're talking about.
Talon 2 all the way, hydraulic brakes and 1x group with a 11-46 cassette.

This Specialized comes with cable actuated brakes and 2x 11-34 cassette (outdated but isn't actually bad in terms of the drivetrain if you need the range, but I prefer 1x for mtb)

Solid deal on a bike with a great reputation. Buy it, ride it, upgrade components as needed as it's a excellent frame. Used sell fast due to demand and reputation.

I'm between the Specialized, and the Giant Talon 2. Is this the one that'd be the direct competitor with the Talon 2 and would you go with Specialized over the Talon 2? Thanks! I'll rep for sure

ALWAYS test ride if possible to make certain of the correct size. Visit your local bike shop and buy from them at the same price.

Rockhopper Sport at $579. has hydro's (Shimano too) and priced at the Talon 2. Rockhopper Sport is better spec'd.

Marin Palisades Trail 2, 27.5, at $449. with RockShox Judy which is a nice step up from the Suntour XC.If they had a XL size I would grab it. Shows S and L available.

From what I was told at a local bike shop, specialized is going through hard times right now, and Giant is overall the better value because they are the supplier for other brands as well. So warranty claims from Giant are more likely to be honored with less pushback than from other manufacturers who need to buy parts from a 3rd party. Also, dollar for dollar, you may get more bike for the buck with Giant.
