I signed up for this offer earlier in the year and to be honest, I haven't used it much. From hotels I've looked at the discounts they offer are generally not much better than booking direct or through my credit card's OTA.
We did recently find a slightly better price (maybe $10-20 cheaper) at a hotel through TA+ and decided to give it a shot. Went through the entire checkout process and got an error screen after submitting. Never got a confirmation email or anything, but they ended up charging my credit card despite not even securing the reservation. I opened a case with their support team as they also have no record of my order and told me to go through my CC company to dispute the charge.
In short, my experience with TA+ has been negative. It's unclear how the benefits work and which hotels are discounted. You get what you pay for.
Amazing, a free promo period that DOESN'T automatically set up auto renewal. I've booked my vacation for next month already, but this will be nice for the 10% experiences discount. Thanks!
They have some hotel discounts. Typically I would say that is BS, but I recently did book an Embassy suites for $160 that was $230 everywhere else. So I would say it is at least worth checking out for free.
TripAdvisor Plus deals seem to depend on the hotel availabilities and with more people traveling there are not that many rooms at lower discounts that what you normally find on the web.
I didn't like how it immediately asked for my name, address, and credit card information after clicking the free 1 year membership. Why not ask members a week before the membership expires? 2 thumbs down for this. 👎🏻👎🏻
I've booked a good number of TripAdvisor experiences over the years. If this will save me 10% on a $600+ day excursion for 2, why not sign up? Thanks OP!
After redeeming this Plus offer, you can likely stack it with Chase clippable TripAdvisor cashback offer. However, I've had both available for a month, and while overlapping vacation, I never found a "best deal" on TripAdvisor (Plus). Was always able to find better offer via either HotelTonight, Hotels.com or Chase/Marriott/Hilton Portal with bonus card points back.
Maybe someone can give insight; what kind of offers does TripAdvisor Plus offer the best deal on?
I used hotwire for their mystery hotel deal on new year's eve week and it was about 70% cheaper than their regular rate. It was pretty easy to find out which hotel it was since 4 star hotel in Studio City, CA. We just looked for the lowest rated/cheapest 4 star in that city and it turned out to be Sheraton. Not the greatest stay as they put us on the crappy floor. I was always curious about what the rest of SD used for hotel deals.
Pointless service. Sure, it's "free", but after a year, their hope is you forget it auto-renews for a service that you never use, and Tripadvisor gets free money.
It doesn't auto renew, I thought?

I was on the fence regarding this and how it would actually save me $.
This freebie came at the right time.
On our trip to Italy all the excursions we booked for 4 people gave us some substantial savings. About $300 at least.
But, we took a lot of excursions.
Would I benefit from this staying in US, probably unlikely unless it was free.

Signed up earlier when this was posted. I wasn't a believer but I have benefited from TA Plus a few times now, saving me much more than what I would have paid for it. Some people say it doesn't work for deals abroad but that is completely false. I've used it for 2 separate booking abroad where the TA Plus price was considerably lower than anything else around (even on other sites). I'm leaning toward paying for this when my 1-yr promo is up.

I used a virtual credit card with a $1 limit, not taking any chances.
