I want to get a good chair since I'm WFH. The default recommendations are like Herman Miller Aeron, Embody, Steelcase Leap V2. But even the refurbs of these models are too darn expensive.

No matter how many times I hear statements like, "it's worth an investment on yourself or your back will thank you etc.." I still can't convince myself to pay close to a grand or even $500 for a chair.

The moment I find a good chair that's reasonably priced, there's always some really bad reviews on it, stopping me from pulling the trigger. A perfect example for this would be the staples Hyken chair.

So now I'm kind of stuck in this endless quest of finding a good budget chair loop.

Can someone please suggest me a good ergonomic chair under $200-$250. So that I can rest my mind and my bottom 😀
Virtually all "gamer" chairs are garbage with terrible ergonomics. Unless you're recommending/linking a specific one, don't recommend gaming chairs to people who are looking for ergonomics lol

Leap V1 is also a good chair and can be had within that range sometimes.. I got one from Madison seating like 8 years ago and it's still my main chair despite having bought a HM Aeron more recently. HM Aeron isn't a good choice if you like to occasionally sit cross legged or any other way that involves your leg or legs on the chair seat.
Steelcase Leap v2 from a local seller is your best bet

Figures an extra 10% is offered now that my return window is closed.

FYI If you think the hard floor casters will be softer rubber and quite on a hard floor don't bother upgrading and stay with the free soft floor casters. You will thank me. Just order Roller blade casters on Amazon for less and you won't have any noise moving the chair around.

It's their terminology for factory refurb and testing they do before selling the chairs again. From their site:
Chairs come with a 12 Year Warranty, 14 Day Free Returns

I want a Leap v2 but it's still too expensive for a used chair...I can get these for $275-325 on FB. And there's a Ebay seller Madison who sells it for similar price.

What's the perks of buying one for 2x to even 3x more on this website?

Thanks

I was in the same boat, but heard horror stories about Madison. Buying secondhand local is also a gamble because you don't know how much abuse the chair has gone through. I bought what I thought was a good condition knoll chair a few years ago, but the arm pads had gotten old and the rubber started to crack and split about a year later. The benefit here is you're getting a chair that's basically new (they'll tell you the manufacture date of each chair and point out any marks or defects), and it has a warranty that's equivalent to Steelcase's first party warranty on new purchases.

I got a captain kirk style swivel base gamer/racing style seat chair. (which I find so much better than rollers I can't believe how good it is).

back adjusts, has extendable footrest, it's a super comfy work chair. also works as a great one person living room recliner chair (meaning it's really tight not swimming around in the chair like some huge recliners) respawn brand but I'm sure many other brands out there. I got on clearance for 100 but I think these are like 300 dollars normal

Hyken owner here. Seeing how many corners Staples has to cut to get the Hyken its current price tag, I start to think maybe making a decent chair actually costs multiple times more.

I used to think that, too, until several years ago I started having to pay for lumbar RF facet denervation every 12-18 months, and experiencing QL muscle pain on top of that. Given that I haven't had a job that wasn't desk work in the past 18 years, I wish I'd paid for decent work chairs a LONG time before I did.

There was a time you could get Steelcase Leap V1/V2 in reasonable shape, or amateur-level reupholstered, for under $300 shipped on eBay. I still have two of them. Not sure what they're going for now.

Having tried my son and DIL's Gesture chairs, I find I like them better. 30% Off makes the upgrade a bit more palatable.

Thank you for all the feedbacks. Looks like I should either get a new chair similar to Hyken with a decent ergonomics or go with an used Leap V2 or Aeron. I'm leaning more towards the used one option though. Thanks again!

I highly recommend the steel case leap v2. For one last year and it's significantly improved my back problems. I can also sit longer than I did on the cheap Amazon executive chairs with the horrible peeling fake leather.

Take a look at the WorkPro 1000. I've had mine for about 4 years now with no problems. I easily spend 12 hours a day in it. I wanted the 9000 series for its ability to drop 2" lower than the 1000, but none were available.
