I mean it is a good price for 2 genuine makita 5ah, but there seem to always be deals where Makita throws in a free 5a battery or two (and a charger) with a tool, it would make more sense to me to just buy a tool. For example, I think Acme is selling the Makita sawzall (brushed) for about $100 now with a free 5ah, you could buy 2 of those for almost what these 2 batteries cost, and have a spare sawzall or just sell or trade the extra.

Sorry, I see that deal was earlier in the week and is dead now. But similar pop up all the time. For example, here's drill with the battery and charger: https://www.acmetools.com/makita-...6347.html. I've been on the Makita line for a few years now, and at first I bought some batteries alone but never again. Sooner or later a tool I want gets offered at "bare tool" price with battery or 2 thrown in, now I have more free 5a batteries than I really need.
Prior to editing this post, I recommended buying Makita batteries on eBay, and posted links to two eBay sellers that I thought were selling genuine Makita batteries at bargain prices. After seeing the post from SplendidReward129, and further examining the batteries I just bought on eBay, which were high quality counterfeits, I believe that those two sellers are likely selling counterfeit batteries (and I don't mean copies/clones, I mean exact duplicates that are made to trick people into thinking they are genuine).
Exercise extreme caution when buying batteries from anyone other than a Makita authorized retailer.
I've had Makita 18V tools for many years, and when I need batteries I go to eBay. 90% of them on eBay are Makita copies/fakes, which I never buy (the fake sellers try hard to make it SEEM like the fake/copies are genuine, so look carefully -- the fakers usually say "for" Makita and the pictures of the batteries don't have the word Makita where it normally would be).
You can buy two packs of 5.0 ah or 6.0ah genuine Makita for around $100 to $115 on eBay (the last 2 pack I got was 6.0ah, where the seller accepted my offer of $100). Here are a few where they are selling for under $115 for two 6.0ah genuine batteries, and they'll accept offers -- try $100-110 and I'm sure you'll be able to get a two pack: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374599365396?epid=15027543487&hash=item5737dcb314:g:TQgAAOSwyBhkJ941&amdata...[ebay.com]
Pretty sure those are just Chinese high quality counterfeits...I wouldn't trust either of those listings. I've seen some YouTube teardowns of supposedly authentic makita batteries that came in a factory looking packaging that turned out to be pretty good quality fakes. They are doing this for DeWalt and Milwaukee as well.. it's not like Makita gives out a lot of promotional 6.0 batteries.... They don't. I'd be more inclined to believe 2 x 5.0 for around $110. They give those out like candy with promotions.

When I saw your post, I was sure you were wrong. I'm a smart, careful, sophisticated guy. I'm not gonna be taken in by any counterfeit seller. But your comment made me take a very close look at the ones I bought on eBay a few weeks ago. And, dammit, you are right. I carefully examined the last pack I bought and determined that they are, in fact, high quality counterfeits, just as you suspected. I am usually very careful about counterfeit goods, but was fooled this time.
Thanks for your heads up (rep given); without it, I wouldn't have noticed until it was too late. I was just in time to request a refund from the counterfeit seller, which he gave me with no questions asked and no request that the counterfeit batteries be returned.
I will delete (or edit) my post recommending these batteries, lest someone else be tricked based, in part, on my foolishness.
I will say this: these are incredibly good counterfeits. There are just a few little subtle giveaways. See this YouTube video for most of the telltale signs that you've got a fake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zboFDXx2HDc
Does ebay provide some kind of authenticity guarantee? Or does it depend entirely on trusting the seller?
I have edited my post that you quoted in yours. Since I believe my original post contained bad advice, would you please consider deleting your quote of my post? I don't want to leave bad info that might lead others into buying counterfeit goods. Thanks.
Another consideration in addition to previous posts is that you don't know how old the batteries from eBay are.
