how is the reliability ? I want to do a wired backhaul but the reviews seem so split on this
I have had a 3-pack system set up with wired backhaul in use for several months and have not had a single issue up till now.
Prior to these I was using the Netgear Orbi RBK753 units which was just as reliable, but of course they did not provide as much flexibility as the Asus units (the 2nd 5GHz band is not available even if you use wired backhaul, the VPN capability is not a expansive, cannot have different names for 2.4 and 5MHz radios, etc.)

My experience is the same but just for a few weeks. Currently running a 3 pack with 2 with a wired backhaul using MoCA adapters. Have had zero issues but I certainly acknowledge the brief time I have used them.
The third unit is working fine on the 5G-2 backhaul but will probably wire it at some point.
These are great units. Moved from Orbi due to constant dropped internet and overall buggy. Asus UI is much more comprehensive and has free security software for life (basically a firewall). Netgear Orbi charges for it and UI treats you like an idiot with no ability to customize beyond the basics.
Sorry, don't mean to sound bitter or use this as a platform against Netgear, just trying to educate. Don't take my word for it, Netgear support and Reddit forums echo everything I'm saying. So much happier to give my money to Asus rather than pay for Orbi Junk.

the single is still available - the double doesn't have the $40 coupon any longer - but same price total.
Does the wired backhaul just use on of the WAN ports?
Wired back haul uses the wan port on the node, lan port on the main router.
Got this last week "open box" from Amazon in a 2 pack for $173. Box was mildly damaged but everything in the box was brand new seemingly untouched. Would recommend that route if you want to save on 2.
So far no issues, setup was incredibly easy (this is my first mesh system). Nas plugged into the node in one room, desktop plugged into the router via Ethernet through the walls. Coverage in my house has been fantastic, no down time yet.
I've been running the ET8 version (WiFi 6E version) for nearly a year now. I got it for around $340 on warehouse for a 2 pack. Has been pretty much flawless. Setting up AiMesh is a little wonky but once done you just forget about it.
Question: If I just want a new wifi 6 router with good range, would buying one of these on its own make sense? Or is this intended for people who want to buy multiple units to set up a mesh system? I just need a single wifi router with good range for my apartment and it seems like one of these would do the trick, but not sure if I'd be paying more because it's mesh focused.
