Even bad movies get sequels if they make enough money.
Alita unfortunately didn't do great as from last we heard it barely broke even from it's budget.

Personally because of where the Anime left off, it's basically where this movie left off as well. I don't know what I'd do if a sequel came out. It's difficult because it would be like Game of Thrones seasons 6 through 8 on HBO. There is no books explaining past season 5. If that makes sense.
