By any lean roast of meat. Cut it thin. Mix equal parts Worcestershire and soy for the marinade base. Add some kind of sugar like honey or brown sugar. Add whatever spices you like. Soak the strips for three hours, then put in an oven or dehydrator at 165F for about 2.5 hours or until your desired dryness is achieved.

Seriously though, most people understand it has sugar. Sugar and salt are great preservatives utilized in most beef jerky recipes. The glycemic load of sugar is far decreased by including most proteins or fat.
6g added sugar per 1 oz serving. 6 grams = almost 25% of 1 oz. This stuff is damn tasty, but little more than meat-flavored candy.
Bought it for a camping trip but think I'll stick to canned fish of my choice, then unsalted peanuts and dried fruit.

Doubt, unless your DT sells unusually large packs.
This is just under $1 per oz.
DT sells 0.625 oz packs for $1.25. The math is $2 per oz.
