Although I like the idea- anytime a fishing rod has so many weak points it's setup for failure. I personally would like to have a collapsible rod for easy transportation, but until they can reinforce areas, it's going to be a struggle.

They can't reinforce areas because that will make the rod more rigid in those areas and the action of the rod will be severely impacted unless you want an extra fast tip that runs into a broom stick.
Would this be a good deal for kids rod to use 3-4 times a year? I like the idea of cheap telescoping rod I can just have in the back of my truck.
I'm just not sure an open reel is really good for the kids! Maybe a closed reel would be more kid proof! Unless you like working with fishing line all the time!

not sure about this model but i've seen a person use a telescoping setup with his kid and nothing but frustration. might want to try a few times yourself before using with kids. better options come out like the daiwa combo or even the ozark trail combo (i have this one and its pretty crappy but if you change out line, its fine).

You can get these for pretty cheap and they work pretty well. At least mine does. I use it for backpacking but truthfully, it ended up being a little long

If they are young or poorly coordinated, then you may want this instead: https://a.co/d/2nXb0kV
If they are about 10 years old, they can probably be shown how to use a spinning reel, and a spinning reel is much simpler to sort out than a spincaster if something goes wrong.

I've got a telescoping rod, and this isn't true for mine. Reinforcing the ferrules will create nodes in the bend, but that really doesn't matter much. My rod still has a medium action that bends through more than just the tip. It has been durable and even throws a 1oz. weight fine without any issues. I paid about $10 on Wish for it, and I've caught fish on remote mountain lakes with it.
I feel like comments of a rod breaking the first time of use are a majority of cases where the the drag was set way too high, had a lure on that was too heavy, or tried to do some hero hook set. I'm sure failures do occur, just not at the rate people leave reviews. A properly set drag should keep your rod and line from breaking under normal circumstances.

Stop worrying so much. Buy a $10 Sougayilang off wish and go fish. I used it on pan fish and even light inshore salt water fishing and it does great. I've thrown 1oz. lead with zero cracks in the ferrules. It's not as sensitive as a lightweight 1-piece, but it's awesome to fit in a small day bag hiking.

This one is a 5'5" rod. That's as short as I'd ever want to go on a fishing pole. Should be great for panfish.

I used Dock Demons[amazon.com] on my kayak all the time, and they work great. What works better, though, is to take the cheap reel off and put on a Zebco 202[amazon.com] reel on it. You'll have $20 in something that works well and the rod will NOT break even if you bend it double. Small, too, so it carries well, and it's a spincaster - the easiest reel to work with.

Wakeman reels arent the greatest. I bought a couple combos a couple years ago, their poles are fine, but i had reel break after couple years. But i have caught several bass and some catfish on a collapsible rod and never had problems.Definitely great to have in the car in case you drive by a pond or lake.
