Probably not. You will get better resolution but contrast and black levels are probably better with the Sony.

I've had projectors since 2005 but have never had a BenQ. Reviews seem good.

PSA to calculate your throw distance at https://www.projectorcentral.com/...or-pro.htm - Set your screen size, lock it, and you'll see how far the projector needs to be from the screen (for this one, ~10'-12' for 120" screen.

Projector noobs often don't realize how precise projector placement has to be. This one has vertical lens shift so you can be a few inches off vertically and adjust, but no horizontal shift so it must be placed perfected centered. You could use keystoning to get around this, but it will make your image jagged.

This or the Benq TK800M for a non-light controlled room (just have shades).

https://www.ebay.com/itm/373461579384

That's $700. The TK850i is also available for $300 more, is that worth the premium?

I have the 3550 with over 5000 hours on it.
it is a great projector, for people that dont want to tinker, it is color calibrated from the factory, and several forums have users that have posted their settings.
It does 3d and is compatible with many glasses.
I just bought a second bulb for ~$150, not sure I need it, but I may be surprised.
The 800/850 are brighter from what i remember, but not a accurate in color.
Make sure you use the calculator as throw distance isnt as flexible as some of my previous PJs.
When this projector first came out, there were some issues that were supposed to be resolved via firmware. make sure you update the firmware and read the forums if you have an earlier model to see what was effected, they made some hardware revisions in 2020/21.
i am very happy with this projector, it is the best i have owned and wont replace it until a PJ with 4k/120, 8k, HDR and low latency come in a ultra short throw form factor.

The 800 is better for non-light controlled room but the 3550 should give you better color and probably better contrast due to its rgb color wheel vs the 800 rgbw. I personally would lean to the 3550 and maybe just invest in some cheap curtains. I would like the better color accuracy and contrast over brightness, but I mainly use my projector for movies.
