Lifetime warranty.
Just bring it back into the store. The entire kit.
Yes, Kobalt tools have a lifetime guarantee.
I found this language online:
"You should never have a problem with your Kobalt tools. However, if you do, return the item to the place of purchase for a free replacement. No questions asked. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state. Please see store or call 1-888-3KOBALT for details."
Lifetime warranty.

Probably better to just bring in the ratchet. These went on clearance a while ago and were < $20 in many stores. They might not have the set any longer, but they should have a 3/8" ratchet.
FWIW my Kobalt ratchets are ~ 8 years old and still work great. I'd guess this issue is a fluke but it could be an entirely different ratchet by now.

probably better bringing the set... why risk getting sent home to get the rest of the stuff.
I had an old Craftsman where the socket wrench went bad and they just rebuilt it in the store. Works like new. No haggle... it was just OK... let me get the rebuild kit. I was really surprised how easy the process was. I had a similar situation with a hedge trimmer that was replaced.
I have this Kobolt set an it is ok. I was working on the springs on my garage door and I was not able to get a socket to fit, but my son's Craftsman did. Same socket size. No idea why.

The stores in my area play games with the warranty. They find every excuse to not warranty a broken Kobalt tool. Good luck!

Just bring in the socket from what I can tell.
