This is a tough pill to swallow but it's a much better experience watching 4K's on this than the PS5/XSX. I was lucky enough to get a Like-New one for $297 last year, but worth the money.

Great 4k player. I agree with the comment above. I tried using my Xbox Series X as the player before buying the 420.

The only difference between this and the 420 is the 420 lacks Dolby vision. So for those without a Dolby vision display, the 420 delivers identical performance.

I really want the 9000 with it's fancy metal casing.

I'm assuming you need a quality TV to match the performance, right?

All I've got right now is a 70" 4k Vizio Walmart clearance special with HDR10 that constantly needs to be restarted

Amazon actually sold this for a short time for about $321 brand new around December 12 last year.

What exactly is better? I know PS5 doesn't support DV but didn't think that was a deal breaker since you can manually tune.

Sucks consoles as powerful as PS5/XSX can't totally replace a dedicated bluray player. Is there some technical hardware limitation that's causing this? What are the consoles missing?

No it's about money. Sony sells Blu-ray players and wants you to buy both. Xbox just doesn't want to pay the fee, I guess.

Hoping to snag this for $375 or less new at some point. Even with the inflation price hike, I'm willing to bet if we hold out until BF we'll see that price or lower at some point.

The consoles should be fine for playing movie discs. it's just a matter of wanting to take it to 11 if you want the best picture and audio (especially if you got a beefy home theater audio setup). If you're just running with a huge TV and regular audio speakers, then you don't need this player. But if you're using an OLED TV with a $3000 home theater audio and are meticulous about how you want your sound and picture, then this player will push the picture and audio quality.

TLDR: If you don't know if you need this player or not, then you don't need it.
