Google honored the 1 year warranty however, and they sent out a replacement phone. I returned my defective 6a to Google...all should have been well.....except
Xfinity won't let me replace the defective 6a with my replacement 6a and keep the device payment plan going. They said (on the phone and different rep via chat) that if I swap in the replacement 6a I will LOSE my remaining device payment plan credits.
Since the defective 6a is gone, my options are to simply let that line ride out the remaining 14 payment plan credits (for 14 more months) and effectively lose access to that phone number (cannot move the phone number or I will also lose the remaining device payment plan credits).
Or, I can simply swap the SIM and be sure NEVER to confirm with Xfinity that I swapped the SIM into the replacement device (they have an online notice that they have detected I swapped devices and to confirm it). Then hope that all is well for the next 14 months...there is no guarantee.
According to the Xfinity CSR's there is no provision to retain your remaining device payment plan credits should you lose or break your phone during the pendency of the payment credits, even though the line remains active with the number you ported in. If you change the device, and you let them know, you lose the payment plan credits.

Today both colors show in-stock, but yesterday lemongrass was OOS. Figured this would go OOS before the promo is over which might still happen, but they probably had a ton of these phones. Personally, I would hesitate to do the deal if it was backordered as well.
Any good case deals for this phone right now?

What are the pros and cons activating my Xfinity Mobile plan on eSIM vs. physical SIM?
If I activate using eSIM, can one later "switch it" to the physical SIM? I don't necessarily know why I would do that, perhaps if I want to buy a local plan from another/local provider when traveling internationally?

The first thing it says on the activation instructions is:
Note: Xfinity Mobile currently supports eSIM only on iPhone 13 or newer.
Your question will probably only matter 2 years from now. And if there is some sort of workaround (user or through a CSR)...I dunno, always a chance of causing a problem with the deal.
Oh, are you going to do the unlock hack? Yeah, I guess you can do that and still have to use physical SIM for XM...and eSIM for travel with a second plan.

I don't know if it is or will be an option, the phone will arrive on Monday. I currently have a Mint plan on a physical SIM on another phone (which doesn't have an eSIM.) If the Xfinity Mobile plan can be put on the eSIM, I could potentially maybe put the Mint SIM into the Pixel 7 and use the Pixel 7 for both Xfinity and Mint? I don't know if that's how things work or if it is possible, but that's why I posted the question...
Can an eSIM be "backed up" so another provider plan can temporarily use the eSIM, e.g. when travelling internationally? And then when done, "restore" the original eSIM plan?

I don't think you can activate a Pixel (as of right now) on XM using the eSIM. Maybe someone who has tried can say for sure.
You can try to unlock the phone with the hack that was linked earlier (to be able to use Pixel on Mint)...but that requires some tech know-how....and I also think you'll be stuck on outdated updates and old security patches (6 months+) moving forward...which is less than ideal. (Maybe I'm wrong and you can update after unlocking?) If updating reverses the hack, you gotta make sure it never updates on it's own or you'll lose the unlock status. Plus you gotta make sure it doesn't update when you set the phone up.
I don't have much experience with eSIMs but from what I could tell...they seem like versatile profiles that you can easily add, delete, add, etc. Not sure if you can back them up if you only have one eSIM slot (if that's a thing)...but I think you just create and associate each time with a plan/line which accomplishes using it temporarily. But it won't really matter unless you unlock the phone via the hack or waiting 2 years if you want all the bill credits.
EDIT: Looks like you can have multiple eSIM profiles and it's just that only 1 can be active at a time.
EDIT 2: Looks like the Pixel 7 recently got an update that it can use (2) eSIM profiles at the same time.
