That's where longer-term boards have been informative. If the code is indeed an install code for specific restricted use, that's where people run into problems later. If it was a MSDN subscriber developer free code for development, and that subscriber isn't anymore, that code could be inactivated - and there is evidence on boards like Reddit and site-review sites of that occasionally happening. But people who do buy would also say they're quite content to get a year or more out of their $7 code. A major operating system upgrade, or major hardware upgrade (processor, system drive) could also trigger a kind of registration authenticity check (to the original intended software install license).

This has been my assumption. They ended the free upgrade from win 7 to 10 on 7/29/2016, yet Win11 will activate with a Windows 7 key.
They are intentionally leaving loopholes for people who are willing to break the license to use their software, that much is obvious.

Got three codes with the discount code posted for $15 USD. The above link didn't work so I got the one on the site that came with the non-optional purchase purchase protection. Claims they give a new code for life if it ever stops working
