Bought this recently, it's a bit loud but I'll take it over anything with a Seagate drive. The default NTFS format reported useable free space was around 14.5TB IIRC.

I feel like this is a dumb question on my part, but this has to be plugged into a power outlet and is not bus powered correct? thanks

Yeah I got one and noticed when firing it up it has some clicking and stuff but them quits eventually

Did not notice this as bad on my older 4-5 TB Elements but for the price, had to snag one

You are correct. Generally, 3.5 inch drives need to be plugged in. Not sure of a situation where you can run these externals off USB.

As is, yes, you must have it plugged into an outlet. But you can also remove the drive from the enclosure and use it as a standard internal drive, which would run off the power of the computer or NAS or 4 bay enclosure or whatever.

Same price for the WD 16TB Red Pro a week ago. Way better drive than these consumer grade drives.
