If you are looking for a CO2 tank and there are brewing supply stores nearby, you can get a 5lb tank for about $110-$150 probably. It will come filled for that price. My brewing supply store has 20lb tanks too but I don't have room for it.

When your tank is empty, you can sometimes bring it back to the brewing supply store and swap for a filled 5lb tank for about $10-$25.

Can't speak to flavorings, since I only like plain carbonated water... but if you want to save money, you're best off buying an external CO2 tank + hose adapter to hook this up to. Paying for CO2 tank exchanges through Sodastream is expensive. Note that the Terra and some other newer models use a "quick connect" method now, so if you are looking for such an adapter, make sure it is compatible with quick connect.

Wow, that's an incredible price! It's $127.96, which is 20% off the normal price, on Amazon right now (although with a couple flavors thrown in on the Amazon deal). https://www.amazon.com/SodaStream...097TCR97P/

I don't have a Costco membership, but for those who do, this is a great deal off retail.

Note that in a previous post about a Sodastream Terra, users were saying they found some in a Sam's Club clearance section for even cheaper, so might be worth checking.

i looked into this fairly extensively but i think my wife would prefer something that doesn't take up more (of our limited) counter space, which leaves the one option of just buying a bigger tank to do my own refills of a (purchased, compatible) canister..but then i encountered the people who seemed to strongly recommended against storing any size tank indoors? le sigh..

yeah - I have mine in an unused room. It wouldn't be sightly for the kitchen. Some people refill their own sodastream co2 tanks themselves by manually adding dry ice after removing the top valve... but I don't feel comfortable doing that. It's way cheaper than doing refills anywhere though. I guess sometimes you'd have to replace the silicon(?) o-rings on the valve after X amount of refills as well.

For the tank, I just ordered a 20lb "food grade" CO2 tank online... it isn't cheap... maybe even like $140+ or something. Probably they have to ship it empty... might be looking at upwards of $200+ easily after buying a tank, tank refill, adapter, etc. I could be wrong, but just estimating. Maybe a local airgas place would sell it too. Have had the tank for a long time though, not sure where exactly I ordered from, sorry.

For the adapter, you'll need some kind of cga320(?) hose adapter. If you're getting the Terra, you'll need to be sure that the adapter works with the quick connect technology... I think you can tell if it's quick connect because the co2 tanks for them are a little pink, whereas the old ones are blue, but I could be wrong.

Also recommend asking on this sub-reddit, and looking around on there...

edit: might depend on your state, but in my state, I think co2 tanks are supposed to be hydrotested every 5 years... has to be done, or they won't refill it for you

Use flip top glass bottles to do a natural secondary fermentation/carbonation. I let the SCOBY do its thing in a large glass jar (~3 gallon) for primary fermentation. Once it's achieved the balance of sweet and acidic flavors, I'll cut up fruit and add them into the flip top bottles. Then fill the bottles with the primary kombucha and allow for carbonation in the closed flip-tops. I usually do a burp check every few days depending on ambient temperature.

I would argue yours is a better deal if you wanted to go to hack route to use your own larger canisters

We live on San Pellegrino in our house-The glass bottles (by the case from Costco). I wonder how easily we could switch to this. Is it similar?
