These Celerons have been superceded by the Intel N95 and N100 which are about 25% faster and don't cost much more. Look up the Beelink S12 as one example. Also, it's better to buy from Amazon because of their easy returns.

This machine is about equivalent of a 12 year old machine. The cpu rating is 4000, I would pick up a used machine with a rating of 15000.

A lot of news and lectures can be listened to at 2x to save time.

Novice here. Can this be used to remotely log into and manage IOT devices? I'm thinking off getting TMO Home Internet and the technology doenst permit using OpenVPN to log in.

Also, never heard of this brand. Other than Intel's NUC, which be pricey, seems bunch of China companies putting them out. Any risk of backdoors in the hardware?

Would this configuration be able to handle Photoshop & simple Davinci edits?
Lol no celerons are not useful for anything but building simple servers to host files or video content.

Can these playback 4k TV in a HTPC role? Play Youtube 1080 at 2x speed?

I would like to know this as well, although I don't need to listen to youtube at 2x speed. I can barely keep up with 1x....lol

how can you listen to something at 2x speed?
Depends on how fast the original video is, but think of your traditional training videos:

"Remember.....(camera slowly pans over to the blade)......when operating the T800 rotary saw....(the blade starts up and cuts into wood)....it is always important to keep your hands away from the spinning blade."

Those can be painfully slow with long pauses. With practice, it's possible to understand even normal lectures at 2x. I've listened to lectures at 1.5x-1.75x comfortably, but I never got up to 2x.

Absolutely, this will not break a sweat playing at 2x 1080p. If you need an HTPC, I'd recommend getting the Beelink S12 with the N100 everyone is talking about - the 12th gen Intel chips have native AV1 decode which will be future-proof for a very long time. It's so new that no Apple product has hardware support for it yet.

Good deal? I'm about to pull the plug
I don't know whether this is a good deal or not, but if you're stating you're about to do something, you'd be "about to pull the trigger" as opposed to ending something which would have you say you're "about to pull the plug."

Maybe stupid question, but can the BEELINK (not this particular box the post is about): be reformatted with Ubuntu Server to run a Plex setup? Don't see why it couldn't, but thought I'd see if anyone knows.

Conveniently left off the word "Celeron" from the processor description. I don't know about you guys, but when I see Celeron, I avoid at all cost.

Can the S12 wifi card be replaced with a Coral AI card?
If its mini-PCIe that the wifi card uses - then yes. You'll need the B+M version of the Coral TPU board and also a mini-PCIe to B+M key adapter.

bummer it doesn't have 2 NICs. It would've made a nice OPNSense/PfSense box.

USB to 1Gb Ethernet adapters are like $10 on Amazon.

yeah, not the best solution for OPNSense/Pfsense. Unless the drivers are baked in , its usually a pain to add external NIC adapters.
