This one has a sub. The Jamo one doesn't. The left and right speakers on this one have upwards firing speakers. The Jamo doesn't.
$299 speakers need a $1500 9-channel receiver to run them.
You don't need a 9.1 receiver. Just don't wire up the rear Atmos speakers. You wont be missing out on much. Good deal if you don't care about aesthetics. These arent bad speakers they just look kinda bad but you'd be hard pressed putting together a set of this quality for anywhere near this price. These aren't for the living room but for a basement or man cave they are fantastic at this price.

How would this setup compare to the Jamo 803 setup? This is double what the jamo costs. Is it worth it?

I don't think I've ever seen these this low. Keep in mind you need a newerish 9.1 receiver to run this.

Good deal though.

Lmao but true. Hard to find a receiver with 9 discrete channel outputs for less than $1,200 even.

Not a bad deal, the receiver is $899 alone on Amazon.

I am confused, I thought Atmos needed 7 speakers (plus optional sub) to generate accurate 3D directional sound - the usual 5.1 setup, and then another two mounted high in the room on either side, to give the sound that "third axis" to play with. How does a 5.1 speaker setup achieve this?

5.1.4 or 9.1, its all the same. The surrounds and fronts have a "up" speaker integrated into them. Not has good as having the ".4" in the ceiling, but at $299 this is going to blow away anything even at $600. yes the cabs are plastic, but no one has complained about the quality of the promedia series for the last 20+ years.
