more than 75% of the worlds garlic comes from China. The US produces roughly the same amount as the country of Myanmar (aka Burma) so you're going to have to search out US made garlic.

Dollar Tree, Big Lots, and many grocery stores have generic spices identical to this for $1 - $1.25.

I don't cheap out on garlic powder any more. A lot of them have inconsistent sized grinds which can throw off recipes, and the last cheap bottle I got had a very bitter tinge to it. It's worth it to pay the $7 for the big 18oz bottle at Costco even if it isn't quite as cheap per oz. (Actually I think this is still more per oz than Costco.)

I don't care if my TV is made in China, but I'm not going to eat stuff from China if I can help it.

$1.57 for 3.9 oz = 0.40/oz
or
$2.29 for 24oz = $0.10/oz
6x as much, same brand, for another 72 cents

https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Bra...C95&sr=1-3

Edit: YMMV, I guess, as some are not seeing the $2.29 price - but it does definitely show up for me. Guess I need to be buying a few hundred of these and reselling Wink

2nd EDIT: Figured it out, I think, maybe. $2.29 is through Amazon Fresh. When I change it to my sister's address, where Fresh is not available, changes to the $10 price.

At least in my region of the US (which is the farthest from Gilroy), most jarred garlic (minced, chopped) is from China. It's probably labor-intensive and cost effective to source and process it overseas.

But the loose garlic from every supermarket that I'm familiar with is sourced from California, and substituted with the purple stuff from Mexico in the offseason. The multipacks of the smaller sized whole garlic in the mesh bags might be from China. At the retail store level in the US, i'd say most garlic is domestic. The jarred stuff makes up a small percentage of our sales. No idea what restaurants and other industries typically use tho.

China garlic contains phosphates and other chemicals which might not be disclosed from various soil contaminates.

Source out US garlic if possible
