IMO you need the ones with the flat outlet head. These can be dangerous if used behind anything movable (desk, bookshelf etc)

my mom's house wiring is old and im worried she might trip the circuit breaker while alone and not know how to reset it. Do surge protectors reduce the change the circuit breaker fuse pops, or does it not help at all with that use case?

It wouldn't help with that use case. If anything it would make it risker since you could add more items to potentially go over the 15 amp.
Just be careful and don't plug like a toaster and kettle into this.

If your outlets are loosely holding the plug and create an arc - it's time to replace them.

This x100. If you already have loose plugs in the house, then you already have a dangerous problem that needs to be fixed asap. Especially if it's an outlet that gets a lot of use, or things get unplugged/plugged back in on a regular basis (ie charging bricks). You don't want your device/s to be fried, or a fire to happen from the contacts in the outlet starting to arc, or spark in some cases.

I agree, but I would say more annoying than dangerous.
Dangerous if you are sliding a dresser into place, and it unexpectedly hits the plug sticking out of the wall, and the sharp corner of the heavy dresser you are moving is right at crotch level...

I don't understand. You're talking about the plug end of this right? Other than the ground which is round, the other two look flat to me. Or are you saying those with one side slightly wider at the end than the other flat pin?

I have my sister's cats visit me once in a while. They annoyingly get behind everything so would want something safe.

There are different styles of plugs which would fit the outlet. Cable may depart perpendicular to the wall, so full plug foot print is good 3-4" from the wall. Alternatively, wire may go parallel to the wall, making footprint of less than 1".
Accordingly, if you have an outlet behind a piece of furniture, that means being able to move it closer to the wall.
There is a separate flavor of rotating plug, where wire direction can be altered. Those, IMHO, are not a great idea...

They are typically called "90 degree plug" power strips, you can search Amazon and find tons of examples (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-6-O...B0090YEVSE), and yep, during a recent reorg of all of the furniture during a spring cleaning that I used to install some smart plugs, reroute & cleanup cables, etc. I replaced a few traditional power strips with 90 degree ones to get the furniture closer to the wall, TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Thanks to both of you. I get it now and agree!
