I have the rp-504c and it's huge. This one is probably pretty big too so you wouldn't be able to fit it on a desk to go along with a pc setup.
Technically yes you can use it as a standalone as long as you are aware that it's passive and you will need an amp/receiver to drive it.
Does not have a spectacular bass on its own. I did not really hear the bass until I added a dedicated subwoofer to my setup. Especially not from my center speaker alone.
